Relive recent festivities at the new Simmons showroom and see exactly why you can’t go wrong with its array of premier bedding selections

Good sleep is arguably the foundation of many things, be it keeping your health in check or ensuring your productivity throughout the day. After long hours spent working and grinding, there’s no better feeling than sinking into the comforts of your bed, free of worry and just genuinely at peace even if it’s only till the morning. At the very least, the quality of your mattress should be the least of your concerns—and this is exactly what Simmons has stood for with its game-changing and generations-long history.

As one of the world’s oldest bedding companies at 153 years old, Simmons has always been a pioneer in the market. It revolutionised the mattress industry with the first Pocketed Coil in the early 1900s, and in 1958, the formidable institution would go on to create the king and queen sizing system that we all know today.

Evincing the brand’s lasting quintessence and its permanent mark on our world, Kuysen and Tatler recently hosted an exclusive tour of Simmons’ showroom at the Kuysen Design + Experience Center. Dubbed “At Your Leisure: Redefining Rest as an Essential Investment”, the event featured delectable bites and drinks as guests answered the question: Why is a mattress an essential investment?

For many, a good night’s rest is simply fundamental to recharge for each long day (or week) ahead of them. “I’m usually very hectic,” shared Cyndi Fernandez-Beltran, co-founder and managing partner of multi-disciplinary design firm Moss Manila. While she admits that she will usually catch up on the weekends, she added that she still tries to sleep seven hours daily because it is, in many ways, her refuge. “I feel it dictates how I feel the next day and how positive I am. I need to recharge for my work which needs me to be active! It helps me think clearly in the creative industry that I’m in.

Echoing this was Aziza Mondoñedo, a sales associate at SQFT Global Properties and events host at 1Lit Corp. “From my hosting career to my real estate business, it takes a lot of energy on top of running my household,” she relayed. “I am also passionate about fitness, so I value my rest and think it’s essential to work a good night’s sleep into my schedule.”

The correlation between a high-quality mattress and overall health was indeed a notable highlight. RJ Ledesma, famed podcast host, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and consul of Monaco to the Philippines, expounded on this further, saying: “If I don’t get the optimal amount of rest, I don’t achieve as much in a day. I love fitness and you need to sleep to have a great workout. Otherwise, it affects your metabolism. Balance in life in key.”

Beyond these, many guests also articulated how it can be one of the easiest and most essential means of self-care. “When you become a mum, you forget about yourself a bit. Sleep becomes so treasured,” revealed Isabelle Olbes, senior vice president of wholesale banking at HSBC. The mother of three added, “You need rest to be the best version of yourself. Me time and self-love should be a priority. You cannot overlook them.”

This further underlined the sentiment that prioritising your needs is, in fact, a selfless act. “I need to care for myself before I can take care of my husband, my companies, and everyone around me,” remarked Maxine Sanz, co-founder of the BBK GROUP. She later touched on the process of building their bedroom at home, and how the couple sought to keep it off limits to their equally busy careers. “You need to be intentional about resting,” she shared. “It is important to set boundaries and spend time with each other.”

Musing about their family’s long and established bedtime routine, entrepreneur and hands-on mum Audrey Pastelero articulated a similar sentiment. “I need a good night’s rest to care for my kids. It’s why I believe that it’s absolutely important that your bed, pillows, and sheets are the right ones!”
