SuMisura transforms an Orchard Road residence into a sanctuary, blending sophisticated materiality with understated details for a refined hotel-suite feel
Perched in the heart of Singapore’s most vibrant shopping district, this apartment designed by SuMisura is defined by serene grace, discreet opulence and fine detailing. While the residence enjoys panoramic views of Orchard Road’s bustling energy, its interiors tell an entirely different story: one of tranquillity and quiet sophistication.
To Angela Lim, co-founder of luxury interior design studio SuMisura, the guiding concept was to transform the home into an abode that balances richness with warmth. The result is a dwelling that feels generous yet practical, a retreat that mirrors the individuality of its owners while echoing SuMisura’s distinctive design language.

Personal touch

“Our design ethos at SuMisura focuses on crafting homes that are deeply personal and highly considered, tailored to each client’s needs while maintaining a stylish subtlety,” shares Lim. “For this project, we elevated everyday living through considered details, from bespoke finishes to curated lighting, creating a home that feels luxurious yet welcoming.”
The apartment’s location shaped much of the design approach. With every corner offering views of the Orchard Road skyline, the interiors were conceived as a restful counterpoint to the city’s hustle and bustle. Italian handmade wallcoverings, bamboo silk rugs, concave fluted walnut timber, brushed bronze and seamless Nero Marquina marble slabs create an atmosphere not unlike that of a high‑end hotel suite.
The home was envisioned to support a lifestyle where entertaining, family time and private retreat coexist. The design separates the private and public zones with a concealed door, allowing seclusion and openness to exist as needed. The entrance foyer, living and dining areas, kitchen and balcony flow into one another in a generous arrangement, suited to convivial gatherings or relaxed evenings. The spaces balance opportunities for connection and retreat, echoing the way city dwellers move between social vibrancy and calm.

Spatial ingenuity

Planning was key to achieving the balance between grandeur and comfort. The arrival space was enlarged and redefined as a hotel‑style foyer, setting the tone with tinted mirrors, warm wood and soft lighting. In the living and dining areas, openness was enhanced by integrating the dry kitchen with the dining zone, while layered lighting and warm timber finishes added cosiness.
One of the most inventive design gestures is found in the corridor to the four bedrooms: a continuous row of framed panels designed as an art piece. Concealing a camouflaged door, this feature not only provides privacy and acoustic control but also doubles as a sculptural backdrop for the living hall, uniting practicality and artistry.

The reconfigured master bathroom is another triumph. “We reimagined the master bathroom entirely, removing a bulky jacuzzi, making way for a graceful elliptical double vanity and shower area, turning it into a serene retreat that still feels sumptuous without being ostentatious,” says Lim.

Spatial challenges became opportunities for SuMisura to showcase design ingenuity. The once‑dark lift lobby was transformed into one of the apartment’s defining features: a sophisticated, welcoming space.
“The entrance is often an overlooked space,” notes Lim, “but it now sets the tone for the rest of the residence, immediately signalling prestige and composure. Here it became a moment of subtle impact that encapsulates the design intent of the entire home.”
Likewise, integrating the dry kitchen with the dining area unlocked a more expansive, sociable atmosphere.

Material layers

The interiors are defined by a layering of textures and colours. A neutral base of stone‑look surfaces and warm timber is elevated with brushed bronze accents and soft textiles. Against this canvas, bold accent hues stand out: deep royal blue in the living and dining areas, burgundy in the master suite, and teal and sage in the other bedrooms.
Lighting design was essential in shaping the apartment’s atmosphere. A sculptural pendant lamp anchors the dining room, while cove lighting and concealed LEDs wrap the spaces in a soft glow, shifting the mood seamlessly between day and night.

The furniture selections complement the interiors’ sophisticated language. A standout is the custom‑sized Cattelan Italia dining table, with its matte black elm top and brushed bronze lacquered base, paired with supple leather chairs. In the living room, a bespoke bamboo silk area rug—designed in collaboration with the client—adds a personal, tactile dimension, grounding the space with sleek opulence.
Ultimately, this Orchard Road home embodies the paradox at the heart of city living: to create serenity amid vibrancy, and seclusion alongside grandeur. Through elegant materiality and spatial ingenuity, SuMisura has realised an environment that feels simultaneously urban and timeless—a prestigious haven of understated style in Singapore’s bustling shopping district.
