Villeroy & Boch envisions a future in which bathroom design appeals to the senses, underpinned by a superb blend of comfort and sustainability

The increasingly fast-paced nature of modern life is driving a growing demand for spaces where we can slow down. The bathroom, once merely functional, has transformed into a personal sanctuary—a place where we begin and end our day, find moments of peace, unwind, and indulge in self-care. No longer just a utility space, it is emerging as a living area in its own right.

According to Villeroy & Boch, a thoughtfully designed bathroom “actively boosts well-being and contributes to the daily ritual of relaxation”. In this retreat, flowing transitions, organic shapes and natural materials come together to create a peaceful, comforting environment. Under the shared motto “Inspire More. Create More. Together,” Villeroy & Boch and Ideal Standard teamed up at ISH 2025 in Frankfurt to present a vision of the bathroom as an open living space with clever architectural design. Created by designers Christian Haas, Gesa Hansen and Roberto Palomba, the showcase highlighted the importance of touch, textures, and the beauty of natural materials.

Warm minimalism

A warmer palette and softer ambience prevailed across high-quality materials such as fine solid wood, satiny polished 3D tiles, and durable ceramic. Deep, earthy hues—one of the key interior trends of 2025—were exemplified by Hansen’s Artis surface-mounted washbasins in Pure Black, Almond, Nightfall, and Teal.

Another standout was the Skyla range, available in eight unique shades—such as classic Brilliant White, mellow Soft Green, and warm Nordic Oak—and flexible size options to complement any space. Taps and other sanitary fittings boast round, organic shapes with clean lines, infusing the bathroom with a soothing sense of tranquillity. Collectively, these elements create an environment in which form meets function, and warmth elevates minimalism into a tactile, lived-in experience.

Enduring luxury

The concept of luxury is evolving, with a shift towards designs that prioritise durability, quality, and the mindful use of resources. “The most important trend is the shift away from trends—towards things that last,” says Haas. Materials and workmanship are central to this enduring ethos, in which an interplay of textures, functionality and aesthetic sensibilities stand the test of time. Case in point: Villeroy & Boch’s latest shower toilets and WCs equipped with the innovative TwistFlush technology. These pieces marry elegant design with water-efficient functionality, underscoring the brand’s unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility.

A timeless design is more than just a stylistic feature; it reflects a purposeful dedication to sustainability. Says Palomba: “More than ever, today’s designers need to follow an ethical and responsible approach, and make sustainability the centre of their vision. Respect for the environment is not an option; it is essential for a more mindful, harmonious, and respectful future for our planet.”

“The bathroom is the last truly private room in the home, so this makes its design particularly important,” explains Hansen. From warmer hues to organic silhouettes and sustainable features, the future of bathroom design embraces comfort, serenity and conscious living—reaffirming the bathroom’s place as a haven for the senses and the soul.
