The joyful hues and inspiring designs of the beautiful Artis washbasins from Villeroy & Boch will infuse your bathroom with lively charm
Colour is a powerful tool in the homeowner’s arsenal of interior design tricks, being able to instantly change the look and feel of a space, and impact the mood and well-being of an abode’s occupants. Lush, expressive tones have jazzed up open-plan dining rooms, and soothing hues work wonders in creating a sense of tranquillity in bedrooms. The bathroom is no exception: emerging from the shadows to cast off its previously boring, utilitarian guise, today’s bath spaces are stylish zones with vibrant pops of colour that are perfect for enjoying life’s little luxuries.
With a proud legacy spanning almost three centuries, luxury lifestyle brand Villeroy & Boch produces bathware that sets ever-evolving benchmarks for good looks and practicality. The German-based brand’s porcelain and ceramic products have epitomised tradition, innovation and quality since its founding as a humble family business in 1748 by iron founder Francois Boch and his three sons in the village of Audun-le-Tiche in Lorraine, France; today, the company is represented in over 125 countries worldwide.
Maintaining a keen focus on form and functionality, Villeroy & Boch’s bathroom and wellness products have been popular with discerning homeowners seeking premium offerings that exemplify exceptional style and innovative features. The brand’s Artis collection of surface-mounted washbasins is a breath of fresh air in the bathroom segment, making a strong design statement with gorgeous colours, precise designs and uniquely delicate forms.

The Artis washbasin range encompasses four different washbasin shapes as well as a total of 10 different hues, including three new colours, to match any bathroom design or colour scheme. German-Danish designer Gesa Hansen was the creative mind behind the three new hues, which mirror the tones of nature to foster feelings of relaxation among users. The new earthy, mid-tone shades—Frozen, Forest and Deep Ocean—were inspired by a radiant grey winter sky, the lush green foliage of the forest, and the depths of the ocean respectively.
“They create depth, which conveys a feeling of safety,” says Hansen of the benefits colour can bring to intimate spaces such as bathrooms.
Addressing her unique new hues, she adds: “I see them as the antithesis of the digital world, with its rather impersonal colours. Blue and green are the predominant shades in nature, which many people yearn for these days.” Forest, a calming dark-green tone, goes perfectly with other dark shades, while cooler tones such as the light blue-grey Frozen and dark-blue Deep Ocean can be matched with timber fittings to create warmth.
