With sweeping views of East Coast Park, this refined apartment by Sujonohun offers a serene tropical escape for a Canadian family

When John and Michelle began looking for a tropical getaway to escape the harsh Canadian winters with their two children, a coastal apartment in Singapore turned out to be the ideal choice, allowing the tight-knit family to reconnect with loved ones in the city while enjoying the welcome warmth. Facing the sea along the edges of East Coast Park, this three-bedroom unit at Meyer Mansion embodies a sought-after “beach house” ambience, mirroring the serenity of its ocean views within its own elegant interiors.

The home was envisioned as an inviting space, dedicated to lively gatherings during the festive seasons—a priority for homemaker and lifestyle influencer Michelle, who has a penchant for cooking and entertaining. Led by interior design firm Sujonohun, the renovation thus revolved around opening up the space to maximise its gorgeous views as well as interactions between guests. With this refreshed layout, the apartment belies its limited square footage, feeling spacious even to its owners, who spend the rest of the year in a grand landed residence.

“The palette was inspired by the refined, sun-washed tones of Brunello Cucinelli— something that feels like spring and summer rather than autumn or winter,” shares Molina Hun, co-founder of Sujonohun. The interiors embody a sense of clear, quiet luxury infused with coastal charm, drawing inspiration from the exteriors, which overlook East Coast Park. “Every design gesture was intentional—not only fulfilling a function, but contributing to a holistic, cohesive experience,” she elaborates.

Key pieces around the home were sourced from Poliform, Herman Miller and Kettal to refine this calming ambience and ensure visual consistency between the living and dining zones, including a selection of outdoor furniture that solidifies the balcony as the perfect spot from which to enjoy the pleasant afternoon breezes.

Luxurious finishes complement these pieces, such as a travertine feature wall in the dining area as well as rich linen textures and artisanal wall coverings in multiple rooms.

The illumination throughout the home was sourced with equal care: alabaster pendants from One A set the mood in the lift lobby, Bocci lights glow softly in the dry kitchen and master bedroom, and dual-tone glass sconces from Sklo add a playful yet sophisticated touch to the daughter’s bedroom.

The latter is one of Hun’s favourite spaces in the apartment, highly functional despite its compact size, the layout and storage space moulded around the daughter’s habits and daily rituals. She highlights the master bedroom and dry kitchen as well, with dedicated cabinetry for bag storage incorporated into the former and a drinks station into the latter, after modifications to the home’s floor plan allowed for a more generous footprint.

As Hun tells us, undertaking a renovation for clients based overseas comes with its challenges, including communication across time zones, but this family made the process smooth, fully trusting the team with their abode even from a distance.

The limited square footage of the East Coast apartment, another initial hurdle, was expertly resolved by Hun and her team as well. “Coming from a large landed home in Canada, the clients needed time to adjust to a condominium-scale layout,” she tells us. “We paid close attention to space planning, and were happy to hear that they found the apartment far more spacious than they had imagined!”

A reflection of trust, communication, and a shared vision spanning continents, this home away from home was meaningfully shaped for its seasonal residents, implementing a key balance of form and function that will allow the family to make memories year after year.
