Tatler’s picks of the hottest decor trends to watch in the new year
In the realm of interior design, Italy’s Milan Design Week is the biggest and most anticipated event of the year, bringing together the most notable furniture manufacturers as well as creative luminaries from around the world.
Tatler visited the event in June, where the tentpole Salone del Mobile Milano, or Milan Furniture Fair, celebrated its 60th anniversary in style.
What’s seen at Salone informs trends in interior design in the year ahead, so we’ve picked out some of the most exciting styles seen at the fair—as well as in new collections by Hong Kong brands—to provide inspiration for interior makeovers in 2023.

What’s in: accent pieces in hues inspired by terracotta and brickwork; whether rosy, autumnal tones like burnt umber and brick red, or softer shades such as camel brown and cream beige.

That’s not to say that more vivid reds are out. Salone typically sees spectacular installations from fashion houses, and this year, the Versace Home presentation at the Palazzo della Permanente museum featured a stunning mix of black and bright red shades.
Colour: Green with envy
Verdant shades—from emerald to sage and pine green—are all the rage, seen on everything from furnishings to upholstery.

While colour palettes that reference mid-century modern styles—deep reds, mustard yellows and emerald greens—are among the key tones of the moment, we also saw pieces and design schemes at the other end of the colour spectrum, in light and bright hues. We are particularly excited about home furnishings in energising pastels. At the Salone fair stands of Sancal and Tacchini, cheerful pieces prove that a good dose of colour can indeed help boost the mood.
