The designer also used green marble for the kitchen backsplash and countertops as well as the linear shelves in order to add visual interest to the monochromatic look. Brass elements, such as sink fittings and light fixtures from British designer Tom Dixon, pull the space together.

“I enjoy combining materials in all of my projects,” says Simon. “The brass finishes alongside the green brought a depth of tone to the apartment and a proper dynamism.”

For a four-bedroom apartment in Singapore, local design studio The Scientist designed a spacious kitchen area that allows the homeowners to entertain effortlessly. The design team selected a cobalt blue hue for the cabinetry, accompanied by rustic timber textures and speckled grey stone surfaces.

The ceiling lights, drop-in washbasin, switch plates and cabinet door handles are painted in black, which adds a grounding element within the space.

“The kitchen is the heart of a home. A designer must understand that a kitchen has various work areas that need to be integrated throughout the entire project,” says principal designer Alvin Ling, on the project.
