Ikea breathes new life into customer favourites following the second release of their Nytillverkad collection
First launched on July 6th to celebrate Ikea’s 80th anniversary, the Nytillverkad collection has now returned with a second launch on October 5th with a refreshingly colourful facelift plucked straight from the early ‘80s, showcasing more of Ikea’s iconic designs throughout the decades with deep contrasting colours, striking patterns, and clean, simple shapes.
Considered modern statement pieces in their time, the Ikea team hit the drawing board to improve some of these iconic products for the modern home. “We wanted to bring back our favourites and remake them with the technology and material of today,” stated Sebastian Svensson, the product innovation leader for Ikea of Sweden.

Taking a glimpse at the new and improved
For fans of funky retro prints, Ikea has brought back some of their classic patterns from the ‘70s created by Swedish designer Sven Fristedt.
“I’ve always had fun working with patterns ever since I started working with Ikea in 1965. Creating is my way of life. And to now see my designs in new colours in the Nytillverkad collection makes me really happy,” wrote Fristedt in his designer thoughts regarding the new collection.

Originally produced in 1983 and inspired by the classic trolley, the Skålboda armchair’s almost rattan-like structure was designed to use less material, keeping costs low and the product lightweight enough to be packed into Ikea’s iconic flat packages.
Made primarily out of steel, its ergonomic shape provides a comfortable seating experience that you can spruce up with a cushion or blanket for the ultimate lounging experience.
