From Bangkok to New York, here are six beautiful bars where the interior design is as memorable as the drinks

The World's Best 50 Bars list was recently released, showcasing worldwide trends and highlighting great bars from all corners of the earth. While all the chosen bars set a high bar in their drinks, some also mesmerise with aesthetic experiences and thoughtful design. 

From The Connaught Bar in London, designed by David Collins Studio, which exudes timeless elegance, to New York’s Overstory Bar by MNDPC, which pays homage to Art Deco glamour, these six spaces offer crafted cocktails and crafted spaces which please all the senses.

1. Connaught Bar, London

Ranked number 5 on the 50 Best Bars 2023 list, the Connaught Bar in London, designed by the renowned David Collins Studio, is an architectural marvel.

Described as elegance in bar form, its opulent interior design boasts a captivating blend of classic and contemporary elements.

A lush colour palette of deep emerald greens, rich mahogany, and gold and brass accents set the scene tastefully intertwined with materials like plush velvet, fine leather, and polished marble.

2. BKK Social Club, Bangkok

BKK Social Club, located in the Four Seasons Bangkok, was designed by award-winning NYC-based firm, AvroKo.

This 13th placing bar has an interior that is as captivating as its drinks with an interior boasting a blend of tropical lushness with sleek art deco influences.

Vibrant colours, natural textures, and handcrafted details create a unique space that fuses modernity with cultural richness, offering an unforgettable drinking experience.

3. Overstory, New York

Perched atop the 64th floor of a Wall Street skyscraper, Overstory is an ultra-luxe oasis designed by local design darlings, Modellus Novus.

Making its way up to 17th place in its second year on the list, the bar was inspired by the grandeur of Art Deco and showcases striking geometric patterns, opulent brass accents, and plush velvet furnishings.

A space which transports patrons back in time while offering a modern twist, the fusion of vintage glamour and contemporary aesthetics makes this bar visually unique.

4. CoChinChina, Buenos Aires

Designed by Argentina’s hottest interior design studio, led by Eme Carranza, CoChinChina in Buenos Aires bar is an immersive space and jumps up to 26th position this year.

Like the drinks here, the design draws inspiration from South East Asia and features a captivating fusion of Asian motifs with contemporary elements.

Its interior showcases intricate wooden carvings, bamboo accents, and soft ambient lighting, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

5. Argo, Hong Kong

Coming in at 34th place, Argo Bar, nestled within the Four Seasons Hong Kong, was crafted by the celebrated firm, AB Concept.

This destination cocktail bar was inspired by conservatories and designed to offer a place for guests to escape from the city’s concrete jungle.

Making the stunning Victoria Harbour view as its backdrop, the stunning bar is a carefully curated composition blending location and design.

6. Scarfes Bar, London

A new entry at 41, Scarfes Bar in the Rosewood Hotel, London, defies the typical British-themed bar clichés with a sophisticated approach.

Designed by Martin Brudnizki, known for his work on Annabel's, the bar's interior celebrates a range of British icons while creating a unique atmosphere that avoids the pitfalls of a gimmicky theme park.

Amongst the wing chairs, antique books and crafted globe chandeliers, one can sip on the establishment's fine cocktails while perusing the artwork by the bar’s namesake the renowned British artist and caricaturist, Gerald Scarfe.
