Tangy, tart, fresh, and delicious—here's where to order amazing ceviche in the city

When prepared properly, raw fish is delicious. But sushi and sashimi aren't the only ways one can indulge in this culinary tradition. Ceviche, a South American dish very similar to our kinilaw, consists of fresh fish tossed with citrus juices such as lemon or lime. Anyone who's tried it is likely to agree—it's delicious! Fortunately for our local food scene, restaurants around the country have been playing around with interpretations of ceviche and have come up with some amazing recipes. Here are our recommendations on where to try it:

1. Samba

Our go-to Peruvian restaurant serves some amazing ceviche. Neither of Samba's seven ceviche recipes is boring either; seafood fans can indulge in everything from ceviche limeño (grouper, shrimp, octopus, scallops, and calamari) to ceviche del jardín (a vegetarian take on the seafood recipe). Each dish comes lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients that complement the protein of each type of ceviche, so you're sure to get the best out of every bite!

2. Nikkei

Japanese-Peruvian restaurant, Nikkei, serves an amazing array of fresh fish dishes. Not only do they have favourites such as sushi and sashimi, they also have a delicious lineup of ceviche dishes. Their Nikkei ceviche consists of tuna and tamarind leche de tigre, while their classic ceviche boasts fresh white fish with red chili and red onion. Those looking for a little kick to go with their appetisers may opt for the spicy wasabi ceviche and or their salmon Thai ceviche.

3. Wantusawa

Wantusawa is famous for their oysters, so it's no wonder they chose to incorporate just that into their ceviche dish! Meet—or rather, taste—the oyster ceviche! Served with sweet potato chips to offset any acidity, this dish features five giant oysters topped with cilantro and sesame seeds. Fresh, delicious, and tempting on a night out in Poblacion.

5. Japonesa

Poblacion's latest addition brings classic ceviche unto our tables. In case you haven't tried eating at Japonesa yet, this might just be your sign to give it a go. They have two kinds of ceviche: classico and verde. Classico comes with white fish and classic citrus sauce, while verde is prepared by mixing Norwegian salmon with lemon, apple, and coconut milk. Either way, both are a must-try.
