With each year’s celebrations getting bigger, Singapore’s restaurants are matching up with National Day menus to impress with gourmet renditions of favourite local classics

No expense is spared for Singapore’s annual big day, and certainly not in Singapore’s finest kitchens where special menus are curated to pay tribute to the nation’s birthday. This year, restaurants are beginning to roll out their best offerings of National Day specials. With their own spin on Singapore’s staples and heritage classics, look forward to flavour-packed, elevated, and rich gourmet renditions of your national favourites.

1. Edge

Edge perfectly captures Singapore’s affinity for food in its new ‘Flavours of the Lion City: A Culinary Expedition Through Singapore’ buffet running through the month of July till August 31. The festivities commence from 6pm to 10pm daily, and from 12pm to 3pm on National Day, with a feast of Singaporean favourite classics like laksa with baby lobster and bak chor mee. Those feeling nostalgic can feel the warm comfort of a bowl of peppery bak kut teh, or the refreshing bite-sized kueh pie tee. It goes without saying that one has to peruse the array of live action stations that are a nod to the multi-cultural influence that has shaped Singapore’s unique dining scene.

2. Saint Pierre

As a pioneering French restaurant open since 2000, Saint Pierre has made Singapore home and is paying homage with its new National Day special seven-course dinner degustation and four-course lunch menu, available only on August 9. One gets to revel in the prime waterfront location with unobstructed views of Marina Bay paired with a stunning backdrop of the National Day fireworks. The meals feature dishes that put an Asian twist on French cuisine. Singapore’s touch can be seen in the Hokkaido hairy crab that features kegani crab en croûte served with chilli crab sauce and fried mantou. The beloved laksa is featured in the Brittany blue lobster course, garnished with coconut purée, discs of fresh coconut flesh, and finished with laksa-inspired consommé. There is also a contemporary but no less comforting take on fish head curry spotlighting the umami rich Nagasaki kinmedai.

3. Entrepôt

Stroll into the luxurious doors of The Robertson House and enjoy Entrepôt’s four-hands menu ‘Onwards Singapore’ in collaboration with Daren Teo, known virally as The Pantry Boy. With the seven-course ‘Onward Singapore’ menu available on August 2 and 3, and a curated four-course menu of selected dishes available from August 5 to 18, diners can enjoy the Singapore-inspired Anglo-Asian cuisine that Entrepôt is known for both before and during National Day weekend. Beloved for his simple recipes on Singaporean staples, Teo has teamed up with chef Nixon Low to put their own twist on national favourites like chilli crab and traditional kueh. Diners can look forward to enjoying refined dishes that offer the characteristic Entrepôt fusion charm like the French yellow chicken on eight treasure porridge. Inspired by the traditional fermented red rice residue chicken, it merges tradition with culinary techniques complementing eight treasure grains with charcoal-kissed, poached, sous-vide chicken.

4. Camille

Celebrate Singapore’s 59th birthday among the blossoming flora of Camille located in 1-Flowerhill. Named after Monet’s lover and muse, the French-Japanese restaurant is the perfect intimate setting for a National Day date while enjoying its three-course dinner menu available from August 6 to 9, and 11. Among the choice of mains is the Argentinian flat iron steak accompanied by salt-baked celeriac and garnished with teriyaki glaze, banana shallot confit, and a rich buah keluak jus. Cocktails delve into Singapore’s token flavours as well with the complimentary Pandan Paradise tapping on bold notes of Kraken rum made sweet by gula melaka and pandan syrup. Coconut milk and whipping cream add the final touch of creaminess in tandem with the pandan.

5. Choon Hoy Parlour

Choon Hoy Parlour wants you to enjoy its themed menu the Singapore way, in conviviality, where large format dishes are placed in the middle of the table for everyone to share. Available from August 1 to 10, the menu is an ode to Singapore’s heritage and hawker fare, especially the limited edition ngo hiang platter. Chef Dylan Ong, with his commitment to upholding the rich culinary culture that gives Singapore its reputation, hones in on heirlooms, heritage, and heartstrings through his signature Singaporean soul food. Think beloved staples such as the rojak, but elevated, and served with rojak ice cream sauce and century egg alongside fresh fruits and vegetables, and crushed peanuts. The crowd favourite Hainanese kampong chicken is also featured alongside other dishes like the Teochew steamed fish of the day. Appease any final cravings with the tangy and floral yuzu citron chng tng.

Celebrate National Day led through a culinary journey through Singapore’s staple flavours by Eden’s ‘Taste of Tradition’ National Day menu. The meal is perfect for the family with an interactive course of do-it-yourself Singapore chilli crab kueh pie tee served with a toolkit of all the traditional fixtures, complemented by an addition of the homemade chilli crab sauce. The skewers served on the main course are the star of the menu with flavour-packed sticks of laksa tiger prawns, sambal turmeric mackerel steak, beef rendang tenderloin, and the classic chicken satay. The special menu will be available throughout the month of August.

Level33 leverages Singapore’s own fresh produce to recreate beloved local flavours in its National Day menu served from live food stations. On August 9, for one night only, Level33 will transform its multi-zoned dining space into a fair of live food stations where diners can enjoy unlimited beverages alongside their degustation from a menu of the microbrewery’s freshly house-brewed beers, wine, prosecco, and the famed Singapore Sling. Available from July 29 to August 9, executive chef Peter Rollinson and the Flutes culinary team have crafted offerings that both honour Singapore’s heritage and characteristic flavours, while staying true to their contemporary European menu. Indulge in premium Wagyu beef slow-cooked in spiced rendang sauce in the signature Wagyu rendang. A lunch and weekend stand out is the chilli Fraser Isle spanner crab spaghettini that is crowned with Yarra Valley caviar, and perfumed with lime and coriander. Diners can look forward to a feast of Chinese fare this National Day season at Jia He Grand and Jia He Chinese Restaurant. Characterise by a philosophy of interplaying tradition with modern twists, alongside classics like laksa with tiger king prawn or chilli crab, the kitchen team has crafted a menu of innovative dishes. The crisp-baked pumpkin medallion is sure to entice with phoenix prawn in soy milk served with dragon fruit tempura for a fresh bite. Jia He puts its own twist on kueh pie tee with chilled avocado, melon and berries, and pan-seared scallop as a filling, alongside steamed pork, sea cucumber and matsutake mushroom dumpling, and crispy baked savoury pork “snow pear” dumpling.
