Atelier Binchotan

Almost everything here is grilled using high carbon charcoal made from oak called Binchotan. Highlights include the kaya toast with foie shavings and the king tiger prawns. Nonetheless, the protagonist of my meal would have to be the Angus rib eye. Perfectly cooked to a nicely charred medium rare, it was well seasoned and accompanied with a Robuchon potato mash. Unctuous, sweet and divine.

As a contemporary Japanese steakhouse fusing Japanese and Nordic cuisines, Beast succeeds brilliantly with a well-curated menu that might not seem to offer plenty at first glance but on closer inspection, offers a lot in terms of tastes and textures. As Beast is known for steaks, the Australian Black Angus Striploin was done flawlessly and retained its juicy and tender quality when cooked medium-well. Served with Fried Confit of Portobello Mushroom with Truffle Aioli and a fresh bowl of Beast Salad with Truffle Ponsu Vinaigrette, this was a truly satisfying meal.

If you’re seeking a luxurious dining experience, then Chambers Grill is definitely worth your while. Meat lovers will enjoy the tender, dry-aged steak on offer here. The Wagyu Rib Eye, nicely infused with sea salt, is highly recommended. A glass of bold and full-bodied Shiraz is an excellent pairing with their steak, the wine’s blackberry notes providing a smooth finish to the intensity of the meat.

Ember Beach Club is a relaxing restaurant located next to the gorgeous pool and beach of One&Only Desaru Coast. The food served here is truly outstanding and comprises a wide variety of fusion dishes. We enjoyed the superbly crunchy fried calamari with its delicious dipping sauce. Also worth mentioning are the amazing Malaysian chili crab, and the fish fillet with red pepper sambal served on a banana leaf with tangy mango and onion sauce. The highlights of our experience, however, were the perfectly cooked Wagyu ribeye steak with fried onion rings and the grilled seabass with crispy skin.

Lucky Bo

There is a reason why you’d go to Lucky Bo’s for dinner. It’s for the Tomahawk, a decadently marbled piece of Wagyu steak grilled over charcoal on a Josper Grill. It’s big. It’s bold. It’s juicy.

The other dishes on the menu are slightly overshadowed by the mighty Tomahawk, which is a pity as most of them are great in their own right. We especially enjoyed the Hong Kong Typhoon Shelter Bay Prawn Pasta, which came with sumptuous tiger prawns, and dug into our Wagyu Intercostal Char Siew with relish.

The staff here are always attentive and courteous. We started our meal with the Blistered Padron Peppers in sesame dressing peppered with bonito flakes. It turned out to be the best dish of the night! As for the main courses, we had the Black Angus Ribeye steak served medium and the Spicy Stozzapreti Pasta. The stozzapreti was a delicious fusion of an Italian dish with Japanese ingredients.

There’s a gleeful playfulness evident in the air of this lively Jalan Mesui eatery: chalk it up to the anime references on its exterior decor. Super Boring Club serves Japanese-fusion food, with surprisingly affordable prices. We ordered the Super Combo and enjoyed every nibble of it. Also worth mentioning is their comprehensive cocktail menu—it has root beer soju!

Fairly priced Indian fare in a comfortable environment. A plus is the well-stocked bar, serving a variety of cocktails. We were recommended to order Grill Chicken Tikka, Mutton Rogan Josh, and Dhall Makhani, and we enjoyed every dish served. The Prawn Briyani especially is a must-try!
