Casa Brazilia’s Brazilian barbecue will satisfy all your meat cravings and more

Despite having one of the richest culinary cultures in the world, most of Singapore remains in the dark about the vibrant flavours of Brazilian cuisine. That’s about to change with Casa Brazilia, a new restaurant serving up authentic Brazilian barbecue that will take you to balmy evenings in Brazil sitting next to wood-fired grills and tender cuts of meat. This is not the joint for vegetarians.

The interiors of Casa Brazilia are refined, with plates and cutlery accented with gold, intricate details and grand paintings depicting scenes from Brazilian history hung proudly on the walls. But if you think this means stiff postures and stiffer demeanours, you’d be mistaken. The atmosphere is distinctly convivial, with servers presenting a buffet of succulent Brazilian meats theatrically sliced tableside on a skewer. Accompanied by sides like a goat cheese crostini topped with fig and honey, coxinhas (a deep-fried shredded chicken and cheese puff) and Brazilian cocktails to boot, Casa Brazilia promises a lively evening perfect for family and friends.

Highlights of Casa Brazilia’s wood- and charcoal-fired menu include the alcatra, the top sirloin that’s seasoned to bring out the best of its gamy profile, enriched with a decadent layer of crispy fat. The beef hump is a highlight as well, cut from the Zebu breed that’s responsible for its exquisite marbling, as is the beef rib, a beautifully tender cut of meat. But even if you’re not into beef, there are other meat offerings that are just as good, like juicy chicken thighs and a hefty leg of lamb. The barbecued fish stands out in particular, with a slightly crisp exterior and an almost creamy interior that melts in your mouth.

If you need a break from these filling meats, however, sink your teeth into the grilled pineapple. It’s complex with its outer layer of sugar lightly caramelised, refreshing the palate with an acidic burst of brightness. Elsewhere, an alface grelhada is an excellent salad accompaniment, featuring lightly grilled romaine lettuce topped with hazelnuts and lightly drizzled with a creamy mayonnaise-base sauce that’s never overpowering.

Don’t forget to wash it down with one of Casa Brazilia’s curated cocktails, like the Caipirinha, Brazil’s national cocktail. It dates back to the 16th century, when Portugese settlers mixed cachaça with lime and sugar. Today, served with ice and topped with lime zest, it’s perfect for lovers of mojitos with a refreshing, tart acidity.
