Tatler friends enjoyed a memorable night of Blue Label, magnificent food, and elegant speakeasy vibes
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label is a whisky that is loved by many and pairs exquisitely with a fine dining meal. On February 10, Tatler invited 30 friends for an intimate dinner at Beta KL, one of Tatler Dining's Top 20 Restaurants in 2023, that had been transformed into an elegant 1920s Shanghai-inspired jazz club complete with a live band, a mahjong table, and other era-appropriate entertainment.
As the guests arrived, they were served delightful welcome cocktails infused with the velvety and complex Blue Label as well as canapés. The Johnnie Apple Spritz cocktail, featuring apple infused thyme syrup, cinnamon vanilla syrup, lemon juice, and soda, was a crowd favourite.
The space was decked out in impressive decor that immersed guests into a decadent jazz club from way back when. Everyone in attendance was dressed in beautiful cheongsams and traditional outfit to fit in with the theme.

After enjoying their cocktails and one another's company, guests were ushered to their seats for dinner. The cocktail glasses were then replaced with Glencairn glasses and classic whisky glasses for the whisky tasting experience. Diageo brand ambassador Chong Wai Keng gave an introduction to Johnnie Walker, its ethos, and blends.
"Johnnie Walker Blue Label is the hallmark of exquisite luxury scotch blended whisky," he shares. "Only one out of 10,000 casks can be used for this blend. That is why it is easy to drink and goes with every meal for everyone to enjoy together."

The meal was a journey through Malaysia's unique flavours and special ingredients curated by Raymond Tham and his team at Beta KL. Dinner began with an introduction to fine Iranian sturgeon and beluga caviar from Caspian Caviar House by Tham, which was followed by a quartet of appetisers.
Beta KL's version of individually plated yee sang was then served, followed by abalone with smoked custard and a dried oyster fritter, which was paired with John Walker & Sons Bicentenary Blend 28 Year Old. For the main course, guests got a taste of the unparalleled John Walker & Sons King George V blend.

The night ended on a sweet note with two special desserts, including Beta KL's signature Loyang Vol. 3, that were accompanied with a toast to great friendship as the guests savoured their whiskies. It was the perfect combination of fine dining and drinks with Johnnie Walker Blue Label indeed.
