From May 1 to 5, the Thai chef-owner of Soi Social will be in Singapore to whip up some of the signatures that he created on live television

We’ve all watched an episode of Iron Chef and wished we could try the sumptuous dishes that the chefs have cooked under pressure on live television. Now, we can do so as Iron Chef Thailand Ian Kittichai will bring back some of the signatures he created on the cooking show at Soi Social from May 1 to 5.

During these five days, the chef-owner of the modern Thai restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa will helm the kitchen to whip out creations like the stir-fried mussels with garlic chives, beansprouts and house-made sriracha sauce, and the tender Hung Lay Ibérico pork slow-cooked in northern-style curry.

“I have been an Iron Chef on Iron Chef Thailand for 12 years running, as well as participated in multiple battles on Iron Chef America and Iron Chef Japan,” shared Kittichai, so he and the team thought that it would be fun to showcase the dishes that have featured on the show over the years. These will be available à la carte, or as part of the three-course lunch and four-course dinner menus, with the option to top up for wine pairing.

Don’t miss: Why these two celebrity chefs believe Thai cuisine is having its moment now

Kittichai’s modern Thai menus, which are available for a limited period only, couldn’t have arrived at a better time with Thai cuisine having its moment now. It is evinced at the recent Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 awards ceremony in Seoul, South Korea with eight restaurants from Thailand making it in the prestigious list and Pam Soontornyanakij, the Thai chef-owner of Potong, earning Asia's Best Female Chef accolade.

In a recent Tatler Dining interview, Kittichai shared that he has “spent a large part of my career pushing the perceptions of Thai cuisine, especially in my restaurants outside of Thailand, beyond the typical dishes people think of as ‘Thai’”, before letting on that international diners are beginning to understand the kingdom’s breadth of cuisine beyond the classic pad thai or green curry.

He added: “Thai food has something for everyone. The Thai fundamentals of spicy, sour, sweet, salty and herbaceous flavours in Thai dishes have a universal appeal.” And that is what diners can expect from Kittichai’s special menus this May.
