From limited-time collaborations to new menus, here is the latest dining news in Hong Kong

This week, Hong Kong’s dining scene is turning to the region for inspiration. Restaurants partner with talents across Asia for collaborations that explore place, identity and terroir through culinary heritage. The result is menus that progress as a multi-layered cultural experience that speaks to something beyond taste.

Meanwhile, two limited-time pop-ups bring a taste of Japan to the city, each focusing on a branch of dining in Tokyo that reflects the city’s heritage and contemporary trends. This regional connection becomes something more dynamic in the drinking scene as one bar welcomes mixology talents from one of China’s rising cocktail destinations for a guest shift, and another prepares for a nostalgic beer party led by local breweries. In short, this week is as good a time to eat and drink out as any. Keep reading for more.

Truffle Bakery has opened a new pop-up in Mong Kok, bringing its viral bakes to the neighbourhood. New additions to the line-up include new salt bread flavours: lemon and matcha crafted with premium powder sourced from Kyoto. The crescent-shaped moon salt bread series will also make its Hong Kong debut, available in original and basil flavours, as well as a Mid-Autumn Festival exclusive red bean mochi special launching on September 7.

Also available are a selection of savoury bites, including the avocado tuna purée burger and spinach bacon burger, as well as new options on the sourdough tartine series. The old-fashioned doughnut series features traditional Japanese fried dough with a cookie-like exterior and cake-like middle in various glazes, while the shokupan (Japanese milk bread) collection of loaves is crafted using the traditional Yudane method.

To celebrate the opening of its Mong Kok pop-up, Truffle Bakery has launched a promotion from now until August 31. Get three or more bakery items, including at least one moon salt bread, share and tag the bakery on Instagram and receive a complimentary coffee or matcha drink, including the Hong Kong-exclusive matcha red bean ice.
