1. Burma Social

Diwali gets a playful twist at Burma Social, the newest fusion restaurant on Tras Street. Indulge in its à la carte items like the raga lattice, a popular Indian street snack consisting of ginger and chilli potato patties served with chickpea curry. The Karim lamb chop is not to be missed, inspired by a recipe from the eponymous 90-year-old restaurant in New Delhi, as is the Lucknawai chicken biryani. Wash it down with the shahi falooda, a rose-flavoured drink that coats the palate with its creaminess and accentuates the bold spice in the rest of the dishes.

From October 30 to November 12, Tiffin Room chef de cuisine Kuldeep Negi will be taking you on a culinary tour across India’s diverse regions. Here, you’ll find Kolkatan street food like the ghugni chaat, a type of chickpea curry, as well as the malai tikka pulao, a classic north Indian dish of boneless chicken legs with saffron, mint and coriander, cooked to perfection in a tandoori. Don’t miss out on Negi’s signature marinated lamb chops with sesame seed and curry leaf chutney, but if you’re vegetarian, opt for the vegetarian Diwali menu for plates that are just as flavourful.

Expect an explosion of flavours from Firangi Superstar, which is offering exclusive Deepavali menus from November 7 to 12. Titled “A Night in the Lights Vol. 2”, both à la carte and set menus will be available for you to savour as you revel in a night of live drum music and modern Indian dishes. The dish titled Envious of These Majestic Pearls, for example, features kingfish tartare in a green chilli vinaigrette and topped with caviar, or the Surf, Saunf and Turf, which sees roasted Australian rock lobster with fennel masala and lemon sothi (coconut milk curry). If you are vegetarian, fret not; most of the dishes in the set menu or à la carte menu come with a vegetarian alternative. Take, for instance, the restaurant’s take on a “laal maas”, a meat curry with pickled shallot and parsnip; here, choose between white Pyrenees lamb or grilled maitake mushroom.
