Beloved Japanese-French pâtisserie Nesuto has opened a new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, boasting sleek and minimalist interiors as a sanctuary in the midst of a bustling airport. Find outlet exclusives here like its extended range of signature chocolate bon-bons, including earl grey and bergamot, smoked dark chocolate and caramel, and passionfruit and hazelnut. Lovers of matcha will be pleased with its new matcha chestnut cake, while those who like their chocolate in unusual combinations will love the chocolate orange and chocolate whisky cake.

2. Long Black Café

Opened a decade ago at Biopolis, Long Black Café is reopening with the classic fusion of Japanese-Italian cuisine and fresh, handmade pasta at its core. Take the wafu pasta, a bold umami bomb made with bonito flakes and savoury vegetables tossed with thick, handmade pasta, or the peri peri chicken burger that’s marinated in homemade peri peri sauce and cooked sous-vide. Don’t forget the Sailors Fish and Chips, which coats sea bass in Long Black Café’s secret batter recipe and is accompanied by tartar sauce for an acidic tang.

3. Paaru

Take a step back from your busy life at Paaru, a café on Pearl’s Hill Terrace in Chinatown with minimalistic paper screens and lanterns, calming you down with burning incense. This Japanese-inspired café includes classic coffee options with beans sourced from Ethiopia, Brazil and Colombia, accompanied by breakfast delights such as the freshly-baked shokupan (Japanese milk bread), which comes in combinations like French toast or topped with eggs (scrambled or poached) with a side of crispy bacon.

4. Snap

Opened on July 2, Snap is a new café in the CBD that’s perfect for a quick lunch. Its specialties include its sourdough toasties, which come in classic flavours like a triple cheese toastie or more exciting versions like gochujang prawn. Wash it down with coffee made with 100 per cent Arabica beans roasted in-house, which shines in drinks like the pistachio espresso latte for a wonderful nutty profile. If you’re not into coffee, though, a range of sparkling refreshers like honey yuzu and strawberry lemonade are available for you to beat the heat.

One of the newest dining spots in the ever-trendy Joo Chiat area is Tomo Café, a Japanese-style café serving up simple yet filling plates. A highlight of its brunch menu is the avocado burrata toast, which is drizzled with balsamic vinegar, Tater Tots, and greens for a healthy bite of fibre, acid and crunch to cut through the creaminess of the burrata. A hearty pasta selection includes a crab pasta linguine, tossed in a choice of miso or lemon butter. And for a drink that doubles as a dessert, go for the iced tiramisu latte, which combines espresso with dairy-free cream, mascarpone, and milk for the ultimate decadent treat.
