With so many new cafe openings, it can be hard to catch up—here’s our list of must visits this month
We are already in the middle of 2023 and yet, Singapore’s café scene shows no signs of slowing down.
Those with a sweet tooth will revel in this month’s offerings as a selection of dessert cafes have popped up around the island. This month, we see various popular home-based bakeries opening their dine-in stores—including Elijah Pies and The Fat Kid Bakery. One of our favourite homegrown ice cream brands Birds of Paradise has also opened its first proper dine-in café concept offering both sweet and savoury creations.
If you are looking for a new favourite coffee spot, take a trip to Alchemist’s new outlet along the CBD. Or, visit Wildcard and pair your coffee with its mouth-watering menu.
1. Wildcard
The folks behind Maxi Coffee Bar has opened a new concept—Wildcard, a modern café by day and a wine bar by night. Visit for brunch and look forward to a menu featuring dishes such as the tenderly braised oxtail coated in an espresso barbecue glaze; buttermilk marinated fried quail tossed in Sichuan pepper; and juicy prawn katsu sandwiched between fluffy milk bread.

2. Elijah Pies
This popular bakery has opened its first dine-in outlet along Tanjong Pagar. Head down and dig into its decadent dessert pies like the Nutella pie featuring a medley of smooth dark chocolate and roasted hazelnuts; and honey chrysanthemum pie. The latter sees a mix of chrysanthemum and honey in a flaky pastry. Savoury pies are available too, like the black truffle mash pie, a fragrant slice that sees layers of custard, portobello mushroom and black truffle-infused mashed potatoes.

3. Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique & Sandwich Bar
This popular homegrown ice cream brand has opened its proper dine-in café concept at Mandai Wildlife West. On top of classic ice cream flavours, keep your eye out for outlet exclusives too like the banana coconut caramel and smoked double chocolate. Balance its sweet treats with savoury creations like the grilled triple cheese sandwich, and tuna and gouda sandwich.

4. The Fat Kid Bakery
This popular bakery has found a home along Amoy Street. Here, the bakery has debuted a wide range of freshly baked creations. Try indulgent treats like the fudgy triple chocolate brownies, crisp kouign amann and flakey croissants. Of course, its iconic sourdough Bombos are still available. The bakery’s interpretation of Italian donuts come generously stuffed with fillings such as crème brulee, blueberry and roasted garlic.

5. Alchemist
This popular coffee café has opened its latest outlet in the heart of the CBD. Here, roasts rotate on a regular basis and feature beans like the popular Los Tres Mosqueteros that offer notes of lychee and grape. Pair your cuppa with a pastry or two—try the yuzu lemon danish, comprising a fluffy pastry topped with zesty and refreshing yuzu lemon curd.
