Start by exploring the latest minimalist cafe, Cloud, home to aromatic brews and sweet bakes. Then, visit Surrey Hills Deli for Melbourne-inspired sandwiches, or Overbrod for a taste of Scandinavia. If you have an Asian palate, visit The Hainan Story’s newest concept at Nex for nostalgic Hainanese dishes. For something sweet, take a trip to Le Matin's dine-in concept at Ion Orchard for sinfully delicious bakes.

1. Le Matin Patisserie

This homegrown pastry shop has opened its first dine-in concept at Ion Orchard. A plethora of sweet and savoury dishes await, including the fermented mushroom quiche, a French pastry tart generously stuffed with creamy custard, porcini mushrooms and smoked celeriac. The savoury treat is finished with slices of mushrooms. For something sweet, go for the goat’s milk tres leches, a decadent slice of cake layered with sweet goat’s milk dulce de leche mousse, and tangy passionfruit and olive oil curd.

2. Surrey Hills Deli

Head to Surrey Hills Deli, Surrey Hills Grocer’s newest cafe concept, at Raffles Place and savour Melbourne-inspired sandwiches and dishes. Beef lovers will not want to miss out on the tassie steak sandwich, layered with a juicy Tasmanian King Island sirloin, peppers relish, house mustard mayo and salad. Those who prefer flavours of the sea can opt for the Syd Fish Market sashimi-grade salmon that’s prepared medium rare. The fish sits on a bed of mushroom barley grains and topped with marinated roe. Wash these dishes down with a latte made from Surrey Hills’ signature blend, which offers aromatic notes of hazelnut, molasses and milk chocolate.

3. The Hainan Story Coffee House

The Hainan Story has opened its latest concept at Nex. At the new outlet, look forward to a range of classic Hainanese fare including braised pork belly, chicken cutlet and curry rice. While you’re here, don’t miss out on its outlet exclusive dishes too, like the Hainanese ah mai’s chee cheong fun comprising thin rice noodles topped with egg, fish balls and fried shallots. Have a bite and revel in silky rice noodles paired with sweet and savoury chee cheong fun sauce. If you’re looking for a sweet treat after your meal, go for the outlet exclusive pandan waffles, generously slathered with the joint’s house made gula Melaka kaya.

4. Cloud

The latest addition to the Duxton Hill enclave is Cloud, a minimalist cafe concept offering a selection of bakes and brews. Dig into its daily bakes, such as the fruit cake crumble, a seasonal treat that of buttery pastry filled with poached apple chunks. It’s finished with crunchy crumble, giving each bite additional texture. Look out for its financier as well, the cafe’s interpretation of the classic French almond cake elevated with the addition of dried berries. Complement your bakes with a steamy cup of coffee, like the creamy and nutty hot white.

5. Overbrod

Transport yourself to Scandinavia with a meal at Overbrod. Located at Anchorpoint, this cafe serves up a mouth-watering selection of Swedish and Danish plates, including the smorrebrod. This classic Danish and Norwegian open-faced sandwich is built on a layer of sourdough rye bread. Try the skagenröra smorrebrod, layered with hard boiled eggs, Norwegian Coldwater shrimp, tobiko and mentaiko mayo. Meatballs are available too, like the frikadeller, pork and beef meatballs accompanied by baby potatoes, veal jus cream sauce and lingon berry jam.
