At the exclusive whisky masterclass, invited guests sampled three signature expressions from The Macallan’s Sherry Oak Collection

Tatler Singapore partnered with COMO Metropolitan Singapore for an exclusive whisky masterclass held at its rooftop bar, Sky Bar. The spirit of choice was The Macallan, which is celebrating its milestone 200-year anniversary this year, and our 12 special guests first got a taste of it when they were served the welcome cocktail Godfather, concocted with The Macallan 12 and amaretto.

After a brief introduction by hotel manager Kunal Arya, who shared more about the unique offerings and exceptional services of COMO Metropolitan Singapore, The Macallan brand specialist Joshua Ting took the 12 guests through three exceptional expressions from the Sherry Oak Collection: The Macallan 12, 18 and 25.

Sherry-seasoned oak casks from  Jerez de la Frontera, Spain are a vital part of The Macallan’s whisky-making process, as they contribute to the whisky’s distinct characteristics, including its subtle spicy notes and auburn colour. Rich woodspice and dried fruits defined the taste profile of The Macallan 12; aged longer, while the full-bodied The Macallan 18 boasted ginger and raisin notes as well as a deep long finish. Not surprisingly, The Macallan 25 had an intensely rich profile of citrus and dried fruits, with a subtle smokiness that left a lasting impression on the guests’ palates.
