Nick Wu of Bar Mood is celebrating World Gin Day at The RuMa Hotel and Residences with an exclusive guest shift at Seven Lobby Bar

In celebration of World Gin Day, an entire day dedicated to one of the world’s most widely loved spirits, The RuMa Hotel and Residences will host Nick Wu, founder of Taipei’s acclaimed Bar Mood, for an exclusive guest shift on June 7. For one night only, guests will be able to experience the creations that earned Bar Mood a coveted spot on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list and won the Ketel One Most Sustainable Bar Award in 2022.

Wu will also craft a mystery cocktail inspired by Malaysia’s culinary heritage, especially for The RuMa Hotel and Residences, which be unveiled during the takeover.

With over two decades of experience in the dining industry, Wu has been dubbed Taiwan’s ‘maestro of mixology,’ having completed guest shifts in over 40 cities across 20 countries, judged prestigious competitions, and hosted mixology masterclasses. Taking home the title of the Diageo World Class Champion in 2016, the inception of Bar Mood followed soon after in 2017 with a concept driven by fusion.

The cocktail bar has since garnered international acclaim for its inventive concoctions that blend classic components with local Taiwanese ingredients and flavours—one of the first in Asia to do so.

From 8 to 10 pm on Friday, June 7, Wu will take over Seven Lobby Bar at The RuMa Hotel and Residences with two signature drinks from Bar Mood. The first, called Presents of God, stands as part of Wu’s Tea series. The creation is Bar Mood’s version of a classic iced lemon tea, uplifted and lent sophistication with gin, plum liqueur, Earl Grey cardamom extract, passionfruit, and dry orange.

The second drink of the night is from Wu’s Flora series, a collection of drinks that celebrate the natural world. The Season of Flower showcases the crisp sweetness of elderflowers, combining the blossom’s accords with jasmine tea syrup, gin, muscat grape liqueur, and brightening the tipple with fresh lemon juice. Both cocktails are distillations of Bar Mood’s concept, spotlighting the uniqueness of Taiwan’s cuisine through the inclusion of local flowers, botanicals, and spices.

There is no place better to celebrate World Gin Day than Seven Lobby Bar, equipped with an impressive portfolio of 77 unique gins that includes Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz gin, the spice-forward Twisted Nose gin, and a classic London dry gin, Tanqueray No 10.

Designed for gin connoisseurs, the bar offers guests customisable cocktail experiences, allowing guests to build their own gin and tonics with its array of gins and seven different tonics, from Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic to East Imperial Yuzu Tonic. Glasses can then be fortified with Sarawak highland pepper, lemongrass, juniper berries, and more from the bar’s selection of spices, herbs, and fruit.

As a pioneer of localised mixology in Asia, Wu remains committed to spotlighting the versatility of local produce, regardless of his current location. During the takeover, a cocktail exclusive to The RuMa Hotel and Residences that highlights a key ingredient of Malaysian cuisine will be unveiled and will then be available to guests from June 7 to July 6.
