Celebrate Negroni Week 2024 with five exciting twists on the classic cocktail

The world’s cocktail enthusiasts are raising their glasses until September 22 in conjunction with the 12th annual Negroni Week. The negroni—a blend of gin, vermouth, and Campari—has taken on many forms since its inception in 1919.

Bars across the city, from Reka:Bar to Bar Trigona, paid homage to the classic cocktail by competing in the Campari Red Hands Final for a chance to take home the title of Campari Red Hands Asia Champion. The week is set to continue with a series of guest shifts spotlighting negronis as Chez Chez takes over Bar Terumi and Campari Group Ambassador Giri Pancha makes an appearance at W Hotel’s Woobar.

It would be remiss of us not to acknowledge the abundance of unique negroni twists during this week of festivities. Whether you like yours served with a twist of orange peel or with a dash of prosecco, here are five twists on the tipple you should try this Negroni Week.

Negroni sbagliato

The negroni sbagliato was born out of a happy accident when bartender Mirko Stocchetto of Milan’s Bar Basso unintentionally made the cocktail with Prosecco instead of gin, lending the tipple a delightful fizz. If you're looking for a negroni with a little more sparkle for a celebration, this is the one for you.

For fans of darker, richer flavours, the Boulevardier trades gin for bourbon, introducing a layer of warmth and complexity. This version has become treasured by those who prefer stronger drinks, as the sharpness of Campari complements the depth of bourbon.

White negroni

By swapping out Campari and red vermouth for Lillet Blanc and Suze, the white negroni offers a botanical spin on the classic cocktail. Fans of a more nuanced bitterness may find this milder variety appealing due to its floral, almost grassy flavour profile.

Cold brew negroni

This twist on the classic negroni combines the rich, roasted depth of cold brew coffee with a negroni’s defining boldness. Fans of espresso martinis are bound to be impressed by this incarnation, with the bitterness of Campari complementing the boldness of cold brew.

For those who crave a little more adventure, try the mezcal negroni, which swaps out gin for earthy mezcal. For individuals who prefer their negroni with a touch of sass, the result is a rich and robust cocktail that adds a whole new level of flavour.
