The new launch comprises three coveted single malt whiskies, matured for 30, 40 and 50 years

Glenfiddich is famed for its signature expressions like the 12 and 15 Year Old, which are made for everyday indulgence. But from time to time, it surprises us with limited edition whiskies belonging to the luxury whisky space that make for great investments.

Case in point: the newly launched Time Re:Imagined collection comprising single malt whiskies aged for 30, 40 and 50 years. These are among the Glenfiddich’s oldest releases to date and are considered the pinnacle of the distillery’s style—extremely rich and smooth, with a depth of flavour that lingers long after the first sip.

It’s no surprise that the 50 Year Old Simultaneous Time is the most sought-after in this series. After all, the golden liquid is a combination of whiskies from three different American oak refill casks laid to rest in the same warehouse. It is then aged for two more years in an American oak refill cask, resulting in an excellent flavour profile layered with oaky notes.

To match its rarity—there are only 220 decanters available worldwide—the liquid is encased in an opulent packaging designed by computational architect Manuel Jiménez García. It might look like a silver frost that hides half the bottle, but the unique design was conceptualised after García decrypted the meteorological data of the past 50 years into an algorithm, generating a physical design language that’s been transformed into a bespoke structure.

The speciality of the Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Cumulative Time lies in the liquid’s creation through the remnant vatting—this means that some remaining whiskies from the previous batch were carried over to the next one. This is then mingled with the casks chosen for this release, so there are spirits in this blend that go beyond 40 years old. Suffice it to say, the 40 Year Old has a complexity that comes from the multiple layers of flavours accumulated over time.

Equally special is the 40 Year Old’s lavish container, which takes its shape from geological metamorphosis. Hence, the case (designed with dramatic grooves that offer a peek of the bottle) and stopper are carved from jesmonite, an eco-friendly and stone-like material with individual characteristics that make each piece truly unique—just like the expression. There are only 1,600 bottles of this released globally.

30 Year Old Suspended Time

While the 30 Year Old Suspended Time may be the youngest from the collection, it’s equally memorable as malt master Brian Kinsman suspended its maturation by bottling the whisky, therefore capturing a particular moment in time. This concept is captured in the outer packaging, featuring what looks like moving ribbons with cut-out windows that seem to be frozen in time

Of the luxe collection, malt master Brian Kinsman shared that in whisky production, they have a responsibility to “find the delicate balance between the taste of the whisky and the intensity of the oak cask.” He elaborates that we should also remember how each cask, each bottle is unique because of the time it was matured. “Nature and time play huge roles in making whisky taste like it does and Glenfiddich’s Time Re:Imagined collection pays homage to this process and the exquisite liquid it helps to create.”
