You don’t need to look further than in our own backyard to discover fun and outdoorsy things to do, but with delicious food, of course

Our island may be small but as we have rediscovered over the past year, we've got plenty of fun activities designed for food and wine lovers. Picnics seem to be one of the most popular things to do now, as evinced by the many restaurants offering their own versions of it. From picnics at home, with a view to glamping experiences, here's what's in store for you if you want to go out and explore the 'great outdoors'.

1. Glamping Picnic Experience

If glamping has been on your bucket list but you had to put it off due to, well, Covid-19, you have your chance now as Tablescape has launched its re-imagined Glamping Picnic experience in the city.

You might not have views of the forest or the mountains, as the location is atop Grand Park City Hall’s rooftop terrace. In its place is the sprawling CBD skyline which looks more majestic at dusk. That’s why the experience here is reserved for dinner (5pm or 7.30pm), where you can book one of the two stylish white tents furnished with a low dining table, rugs, cushions and thoughtful embellishments that bring the outdoors in.

Whether you dine with your partner or friends (maximum of five), you’ll be able to partake in a luxurious picnic spread including the likes of cheese platter served with accompaniments of dried fruits and nuts; foie gras served atop house-made brioche; and Tablescape-style mini beef burgers comprising Wagyu beef patty stacked with mushroom, bacon, onions and cheese. 2. Live Like Summer Never Ends Picnic

It’s summer all year round in Singapore. Whether you like it or not, might as well celebrate it by partaking in Publico Ristorante’s inaugural Live Like Summer Never Ends Picnic, in collaboration with Grey Goose vodka.

The picnic takes place at the breezy al fresco terrazza on Good Friday (April 2, 2pm to 5pm), which is a good lead up to the long weekend ahead. Come hungry so you can fully enjoy the feast that the chefs have carefully curated in your picnic baskets (available for pre-order) for four people.

That includes a bottle of Grey Goose vodka and Fever Tree to create your own vodka tonic; refreshing tipples such as Sicilian Lemonade and Light Cucumber Tonic; and fresh fruits to beat the heat. It’s an Italian place after all, so you’ll be served their signature burrata and tartufata pizzas to be enjoyed while playing some table games (included in the pack). 3. Picnic Buzz-kets

The folks at The Garage and events services brand Packdd wants you to reconnect with nature by creating Picnic Buzz-kets, a fun takeaway programme that makes it easier to plan a picnic in the park.

Instead of just a basket filled with food and drinks, you’ll get a full picnic set-up that includes mats, a foldable table, cushions and battery-operated candlelight. When it comes to food, you have a galore of options depending on the occasion. Prefer to graze on snacks only? Opt for light bites such as sliders and fries. But if you want something more filling, the Vineyard Picnic Buzz-ket brings you the full works of cheeses, charcuterie and wine. The sets are available for pick up at The Garage. Order here.

4. Picnic in the Clouds

True to the saying, “if you got it, flaunt it”, Cé La Vi takes advantage of its amazing views of the skyline and Marina Bay for its first-ever Picnic in the Clouds, held on March 27 in partnership with Grey Goose Vodka.

For three golden hours, you can drink as many cocktails, spirits, bubbles and beer as your kidneys can handle. Don’t skip the Cloud Cocktails created exclusively for the occasion—Clear Blue Skies created with Grey Goose Vodka, blue curaçao, chamomile tea and white cloud; The Sundowner made with Bombay Sapphire Gin, Bénédictine D.O.M, cherry and bitters; and Perfect Storm concocted with Bacardi 8 Year Old Rum, Frangelico and Fever Tree Ginger Beer.

Executive chef Joey Sergentakis has also prepared a repertoire of much-loved picnic bites with an Asian twist, and served in picnic baskets. Dig into house-made wraps, pita bread and crostini served with locally-inspired dips; charcuterie board laden with parma ham, capicola and mortadella. 5. Pinot Picnic at Home

We’re all hoping for the Singapore-Australia travel bubble to push through, just so we could go on wine tours and events such as the inaugural Pinot Picnic in April 2021.
