All those hours you’ve spent binge-watching Korean dramas have probably ignited your appetite for Korean food—the likes of fried chicken, tteokbokki, ramyeon and beef bulgogi. Whether you are too busy to cook your own meal or don't have much experience in the kitchen, the good news is you can easily prepare authentic Korean dishes thanks to chef Olivia Lee, who recently launched So Good K, an online shop where you can find authentic sauces and premium ingredients commonly used in Korean cuisine.

“As a busy working mother with a young child, I appreciate high quality, healthy ingredients that my entire family will benefit from having," explains Lee, who was inspired to start the site after looking for a practical and convenient way to prep meals that are delicious and healthy. That said, So Good K offers make-your-own kits curated by Lee herself that consist of seasonal Korean produce and other ingredients to get you started in the kitchen.

For example, she offers the make-your-own maesil-cheong (green plum syrup) kit, comprising Korean green plums (maesil), xylose sugar and a recipe card to guide you in making this kitchen staple. What's Korean cuisine without kimchi? That's why you'll also find the make-your-own-kimchi set, packed with fresh napa cabbage and kimchi sauce.

Do-it-yourself meals are also available, so opt for the original bulgogi mushroom set with all the necessary vegetables and mixes to create one delicious meal. Here's chef Olivia Lee's recipe:

Mushroom Beef Bulgogi

Bulgogi (which means fire meat) is arguably one of the most popular Korean dishes, made by marinating meat slices in a variety of ingredients such as soy, cooking rice wine, garlic and sesame seeds. This recipe is super simple to do, especially when you already have the sauce prepared. All you need to do is marinate the strips and cook them with the rest of the ingredients to enjoy mushroom beef bulgogi at home.

INGREDIENTS

  • 200g premium beef shabu shabu
  • 100g Korean bulgogi sauce
  • 1/2 pack buna and white shimeji mushrooms
  • 1 pack enoki mushrooms
  • 2 pcs king oyster mushrooms
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 1/2 green pepper

METHOD

  1. Pat dry beef shabu shabu with kitchen towels.
  2. Place beef slices in a bowl and pour one packet of bulgogi sauce marinade. Mix well and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Gently wash mushrooms in water and cut them into thin strips.
  4. Cut the red and green chillies into 0.3 cm thick strips.
  5. Heat wok over high heat, add cooking oil.
  6. Add the marinated beef and mushrooms. Cook the beef for about 7 to 9 minutes, stirring occasionally. To boost flavours, you can also mix in light roasted sesame oil. Enjoy.
