The bistro was inspired by the chef’s background in French cuisine and influenced by his heritage and local flavours
It has been a while since we last visited Kovan for food, but the quiet neighbourhood’s food scene has gotten more exciting with the opening of French-inspired bistro, Alkove. For one, it’s headed by Haikal Johari, the executive chef of Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant Alma by Juan Amador which serves up modern European dishes laced with Asian accents.
At Alkove, however, he plumbed through his culinary memories working at renowned French restaurants Joël Robuchon and Les Amis and combined these with his heritage and local flavours to craft a delectable French-inspired menu that everyone can appreciate.

Bread is a universal food; here you have a selection of loaves and viennoiseries baked fresh daily and available in exciting flavours—almond-coconut croissant, cardamom kouign-amann and gula melaka canelé, to name a few. These are available for dine-in and takeaway.
If you decide to dine in, stay for the brunch and feast on a host of egg-centric dishes like the scrambled eggs cooked until soft and creamy, and served with homemade sourdough, cream cheese, and smoked beef sausage; oeufs à la coque, panko-crusted soft-boiled eggs perched atop ciabatta and ham, and slathered with hollandaise sauce.
