To celebrate the first anniversary of Estro, executive chef Antimo Maria Merone is collaborating with chefs and friends Ricardo Chaneton of Mono and Agustin Balbi of Ando to present an Italian-inspired lunch on September 18. The chefs, who are also on Tatler Dining's Top 20 restaurants list, have come together to create a special six-course menu with dishes exclusively designed for the occasion. The menu is filled with Italian delights such as blue lobster alla pizzaiola, corn fettuccine with spiced roasted chicken essence, sweetbread Milanese and much more. There is also an optional wine pairing to try if you should feel so inclined.

Wine Not?

Tatler Asia

This might be the most exclusive wine event in town. For just one night per month, Salisterra transports guests to a well-known wine region and pairs a curated selection of some of its most interesting wines, chosen by sommelier Roger Chan, with the cuisine of the area, courtesy of chef Cary Docherty. Because, after all, what grows together goes together.

The Regional Wine Dinner Series kicked off in August with a trip to Burgundy that saw classic Burgundian dishes—did you know that the fare of the famous wine-producing region frequently eschews vegetables?—paired with some of the region’s lesser-known bottles, many of which were organic and/or limited productions.

A gastronomic tour down under is up next, as seasonal Australian fare is accompanied by wines hailing from exceptional sites in Margaret River and the Yarra and Barossa Valleys as well as further afield. The intimate six-course dinner, which takes place on 20 September is limited to just eight diners so book early to avoid disappointment, or hold out for a return to Europe as there’s an Italian-themed pairing dinner planned for October 11.

Taking over Rubia on Hollywood Road, Schnitzel & Schnaps is a new restaurant by the same group and takes its name from two of the most well-known dishes and spirits from Central Europe. The restaurant has two levels with a cocktail bar on the ground floor offering a wide range of schnaps, beers and wines and an upstairs dining room that offers a menu with a sizeable schnitzel selection and more.

The schnitzels here are coated with bread crumbs from dried German kaiser rolls and a mixed herb blend before it is shallow fried for a crisp cutlet that remains tender inside. Highlights include the classic wiener schnitzel made with milk-fed veal; schnitzel à la holstein, a pan-fried pork chop with a fried egg; and the yellow corn-fed chicken thigh jägerschnitzel served with chanterelle mushroom gravy. The menu also has a range of sausages from the region to try with cabbage slaw, sauerkraut and potato salad.
