Christmas is a period filled with gathering, gifting and feasting. If you are planning to celebrate at home, there’s much to prepare—from finding the perfect turkey to stocking up on tipples, it’s best to make a list and check it twice.

If you find yourself stumped on what to get for dessert, why not go for a log cake? After all, nothing says Christmas more than this traditional festive dessert.

That said, various pastry chefs have begun rolling out their latest creations that are bound to satisfy our sweet tooth. Apart from that, these stunning creations also make for a beautiful centrepiece. From classic flavours to Asian-inspired ones, here are some delectable yule logs to look forward to this season.

1. Violet Oon Singapore

Local chef Violet Oon’s local twist on the traditional yule log—the VO coconut log cake—is perfect for coconut lovers. Pillowy sponge cake is embedded with layers of fresh coconut flesh, and cream and finished with a generous coating of light and airy homemade coconut-infused cream. Take a bite and revel in the fruit’s tropical flavours balanced with a sweet sponge. Available from now until January 1, 2023.

2. The Lobby Lounge

Sweeten your yuletide celebrations with a log cake from The Lobby Lounge at Shangri-La Singapore. On top of its signature Grandma Chocolate log cake, crafted with rich chocolate buttercream and chocolate sponge, look out for its latest creation: the triple nutty crunch log cake. Decorated to resemble a wood stack, the festive treat has luscious layers of sacher sponge, gianduja cremeux, caramelised hazelnut and hazelnut praline mousse. Available from now until December 25.

3. Lime Restaurant

Those who enjoy fruity desserts can revel in Lime Restaurant's latest festive creations. Go for the peach oolong yule log, featuring a medley of peach jam, TWG oolong tea, rich white chocolate mousse and vanilla sponge. The decadent treat sits on a crunchy layer of white chocolate feuilletine, which adds additional texture to each bite. For something with a kick, opt for the cherry pistachio yule log instead, comprising cherry marmalade infused with amaretto liqueur. The sweet marmalade is spread on a nutty pistachio sponge and encased in a rich mascarpone mousse. Available from now until January 1, 2023.

4. Pacific Marketplace

This year, Pan Pacific Singapore is celebrating the holidays with the introduction of three new log cakes: pink guava and strawberry; coconut mango; and chocolate. The pink guava and strawberry log cake is a delectable combination of tangy pink guava mousse, strawberry confit and red velvet sponge cake. While those who prefer tropical flavours can delight in the coconut mango log cake that comprises mango passionfruit confit sandwiched between coconut dacquoise. 

For a traditional slice, go for the classic chocolate log cake, with a decadent chocolate buttercream slathered on a rich chocolate sponge. Available from now until December 26.

5. Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

The culinary team at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is adding a local touch to this festive treat with the bubur cha cha yule log. A re-imagination of the popular bubur cha cha dessert, this creation comes filled with light coconut mousse and a taro-sweet potato sponge cake. The log cake is finished off with a thick coating of white chocolate and decorated to resemble a cottage. Available from now until December 22.

6. Goodwood Park Hotel

Executive pastry chef Joe Tan’s latest creation, the festive tropicana log cake, draws influences from the island’s tropical season. Cut into the decadent treat to unravel beautiful layers of crunchy hazelnut croustillant, pineapple-vanilla confit, citrusy pineapple chunks, sea salt caramel mousse, fluffy sponge cake and smooth Valrhona chocolate mousse. Take a bite and revel in a myriad of flavours, from rich Valrhona to refreshing pineapple bits. Available from now until January 2, 2023.

7. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

This Christmas, executive pastry chef Siddharth Prabhu has whipped up two new creations inspired by Singapore. Peranakan Medley is an ode to the island’s Peranakan heritage, featuring sponge cake infused with pandan and elevated with caramelised rice crisps and coconut crème. Tropical Noel is an ode to the island’s tropical season and comes with a mango pomelo crème and caramelised pineapple enveloped in an orange almond joconde. Available from now to December 27.

8. InterContinental Singapore

Executive pastry chef Desmond Lee is ringing in the festive season with decadent log cakes. Of course, its signature forest cherries log is a must-try, a fruity and decadent creation comprising beautiful layers of dark chocolate mousse, spiced cherry confit and Kirsch mousse. If you are not a fan of cherries, go for the Buche de Noel chocolate that sees a moist chocolate sponge slathered with a bittersweet chocolate cream. Crunchy chocolate nibs complete the cake, adding texture to each bite. Available from now until December 25.

9. Alice Boulangerie

This French bakery’s latest Christmas log cake is a treat for both the eyes and stomach. The whimsical creation is essentially a moist chocolate flourless sponge cake elevated with chocolate mud biscuit, caramelised banana and hazelnut praline crunch. It’s shaped and decorated to resemble a log and crowned with an adorable 3D squirrel made from rich orange dark chocolate mousse. Available for pre-orders from now to December 21.

10. The Marmalade Pantry

This homegrown bistro is joining the festivities with two new log cakes—classic chocolate truffle and tangy lemon pistachio. The former is a rich and decadent treat made with 60 per cent dark chocolate truffle core and encased in a velvety smooth melted chocolate ganache and chocolate sponge cake. It’s dressed in a chocolate glaze and topped with chocolate macaron. The latter is a fruity rendition of the classic dessert and comes with a tangy lemon white chocolate truffle core wrapped in nutty pistachio frosting, Chantilly cream and vanilla sponge.
