The Standard, Singapore joins a growing list of upcoming hotel brands making their debut in the Lion City
With travel bans still in place due to the pandemic, many have turned to staycations as an alternative way to get that holiday feeling. Although not devoid of challenges, the hotel scene in Singapore has remained bullish with a spate of exciting new hotel openings lined up.
Come 2023, another new hotel will arrive on our shores: The Standard, Singapore. This will be the first property in Singapore for the boutique hotel brand, which was founded by businessman and hotelier André Balazs in 1999. Balazs is known for his knack for acquiring old properties and converting them into trendy haunts, such was the case with The Mercer Hotel in New York as well as London's Chiltern Firehouse. He eventually sold his stake in both The Standard's real estate and management in 2017.

The Standard, Singapore will feature 143 rooms housed in a building designed by homegrown architect firm DP Architects, with interiors by Ministry of Design. Other standout highlights within the hotel include The Standard’s signature restaurant, a rich arts and cultural programme, as well as an infinity swimming pool and bar that will be “set within a lush botanical courtyard”.
Developed by Invictus Developments, the new-build hotel is set to sit on prime location on Orange Grove Road, across from Shangri-La Singapore. Conveniently located in close proximity to the bustling stretch of the Orchard Road shopping belt, the new local getaway will also be a stone’s throw away from the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a Unseco World Heritage Site.
