Villa Balbiano has a rich and storied past. It was built at the end of the 16th century by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, who used it as his main residence. A century later, it was expanded and embellished by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, who was known for hosting extravagant high society festivals, banquets and dances at the property.
Today, Villa Balbiano is one of the largest private residences on Lake Como, featuring six luxurious suites designed by renowned interior designer Jacques Garcia. The property is filled with objets d'art and antique furniture from centuries gone by, acquired from Sotheby's and Christie's. 17th century frescoes that adorn the walls, painted by the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva, remain untouched.
Surrounding the home is a sprawling garden distinguished by the British Society of Garden Designers, and which guests will recognise from House of Gucci. The property also features an outdoor swimming pool, a private pier and a boathouse.
