With many countries around the world reopening their borders to tourists once again, Time magazine’s 2022 list of the World’s Greatest Places serves as an apt reminder of what we’ve missed about international travel during the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, nine Asian destinations were highlighted in this extensive list compiled from nominations by Time’s extensive network of correspondents and contributors from around the world.
Seoul earned a spot on the list, said to be one of the leading smart cities in the world. Seoul's city government has invested significantly in the development of a virtual communication ecosystem known as Metaverse Seoul and in launching a Virtual Tourist Zone, where users with VR headsets will be able to view the city's top attractions such as Deoksugung Palace or Gwanghwamun Plaza.
For awe-inspiring heritage sites and astounding natural beauty, Bhutan's Trans Bhutan Trail and Uzbekistan's Historic Silk Road sites were featured, alongside beloved tourist destinations like Indonesia's Bali and Boracay in the Philippines.
