Ready to make your overdue travel plans a reality in 2022? Be sure to allow plenty of time for your Malaysian passport online renewal to be approved

In May 2022, the Malaysian Immigration Department announced that all passport renewals must be done online via the MyOnline Passport portal for applicants above 13 years old. However, walk-in passport renewals may still be done for individuals in the following categories:

  • Senior citizens 60 years old and above
  • Children below 13 years old
  • People with disabilities
  • Students
  • Haj pilgrims
  • People with damaged or lost passports
  • New passport applicants

According to the Immigration Department, approval for passport renewals can be obtained within three working days, by which time applicants should receive an email notification. If you do not receive this email notification, you can proceed to the nearest passport collection centre that you selected during your online application.

To submit your passport application online, visit the MyOnline Passport page and click 'Setuju' after reading the guidelines and passport photo specifications. Passport photos submitted online must be taken against a white background with no shadows.

For this photo applicants should wear dark clothing that covers the chest and shoulders and avoid wearing glasses, coloured contact lenses or any accessories (women with head scarves should wear dark coloured ones that don't conceal their face). It is recommended to have these photos done at your nearest photography studio.

First, fill in the details on the MyOnline Passport form, including your passport and IC numbers. Then select your nearest immigration centre under the 'Pejabat Pungutan' section, which will automatically be set to locations within Malaysia.

If you are a guardian or parent submitting an application for your child or ward who is under 18 years of age, click 'Pemohon Di Bawah 18 Tahun' and fill out your IC details under 'No Pengenalan Penjaga'. After this, a window should open with a reminder that only passports in good condition can be renewed online. Click 'Setuju' and submit your photos.

Upload your photo and fill out your personal details, including your home address and email. The payment page is next, which allows you to pay using FPX, debit or credit card. Applicants aged 13 - 59 years old are required to pay RM200 while senior citizens above above 60 years old need to pay RM100.

Once you've paid, save a copy of your receipt. You'll need to bring this to the collection office along with your existing passport and your IC in order to collect the new passport. Keep in mind that you must be present to collect your passport; no one can collect it on your behalf.

To accommodate the increased number of applications for passport renewal, several Immigration Centres have extended their operating hours to 10pm. Swipe through the Immigration Department's Instagram post below to see the Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs) immigration counters and immigration offices across the nation that open till 10pm and 6pm respectively.
