Celebrate with Disney+ as it commemorates its second anniversary with this list of new shows and remakes of our favourite Disney classics

Last Friday was probably the most exciting and nostalgic day for Disney fans everywhere as November 12 marked the commemoration of Disney+ Day.

The streaming channel plans to celebrate its second anniversary since its inception with new premieres and features of films and series. Many of Disney’s 25 new titles are already available for subscribers to stream, but fans are stoked to receive more shows that will be arriving in 2022.

In addition to the new announcements, Disney+ continued the Disney cheer by treating its subscribers with tickets to Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort to a priority queue, where they were allowed to enter 30 minutes prior to the gates opening on Friday.

Get ready to make some popcorn because here's a list of upcoming Disney+ shows that you wouldn't want to miss.

1. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild

To the Ice Age fans out there, get ready because your favourite wild prehistoric adventure movie is back with a spotlight on the adventures of Buck Wild. While the movie will take an aptly different narrative direction from its predecessors, you will still get to indulge your nostalgia with the  comebacks of characters like Sid, Manny, Diego and many more! The first film in the series was released in 2002 by 20th Century Fox and was subsequently acquired by Disney in 2018. The movie will stream on Disney+ from January 28 onwards.

2. Baymax!

We don't know anyone who does not love Baymax because this big, fluffy, friendly balloon of a character is simply the cutest and sweetest robot out there. If you liked Big Hero 6, you will definitely like this one—Baymax is getting his own original series, Baymax! You can start watching the series in the summer of 2022. With the return of lovable characters like Hiro and Baymax himself, they are bound to tug at your heartstrings once again with their winsome friendship and exhilarating adventures.

3. Cheaper by the Dozen remake

We all loved the 2003 original film about the quirky family of 14 and their comedic mishaps and adventures throughout the movie. While it has been nearly 20 years since it premiered, a remake of the film—still called Cheaper by the Dozen—is now a reality and will be available for streaming in March 2022! Starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff, the new version will focus on a blended family of 12 and it will not only relive our fondest memories of the original, but it will also induct a new generation of watchers into this iconic and one-of-a-kind film.

4. Enchanted and Disenchanted sequel

Fans of the 2007 film Enchanted were in for an enchanting treat last week with the surprise of two magical announcements: the 2007 film starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey is now available for streaming and a much-anticipated sequel Disenchanted is coming to Disney Plus in the fall of 2022. If you have missed the classic animal singing and quintessential fairy tale tropes in a movie that combines animation and live-action all in one, this sequel is one you need to watch in the near future.

5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid animation

If you grew up in the early 2000s, or were around kids during those years, you may be familiar with the fiction series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The series—including the books, a live-action film, and a popular balloon during Macy’s parades—will now add an animated movie on Disney Plus to its collection. The movie will be available for streaming starting on December 3. The second book in the series Rodrick Rules will also be turned into an animated film for Disney Plus.

6. The Beatles: Get Back

For fans of the Beatles, you may want to get ready for November 25 because The Beatles: Get Back—a three-part event directed by Peter Jackson—will be available for streaming on Thanksgiving. Celebrating the lives of the iconic rock band members and the band's achievements and struggles, this three-part series will take audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history.

7. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers

To the classic Disney animation fans: Don’t call it a reboot—Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers starring John Mulaney and Andy Samberg will be available to stream in spring 2022. Disney+ is even calling it a “comeback 30 years in the making” and we just can't wait to see the fresh take on our childhood classic.

8. Hocus Pocus 2

Our favourite fantasy comedy film is back with the sequel to the 1993 film Hocus Pocus and its exploration of the events of the first film twenty nine years later. Just in time for Halloween 2022, production for Hocus Pocus 2 is underway, featuring the famous witches of Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy. The film will be available next fall and the story will revolve around three high-school students who must work together to stop the Sanderson sisters who have returned to present-day Salem.

9. Pinocchio live-action movie

The lovable and innocent puppet-boy who must not lie is back as Disney Plus has also announced its latest live-action remake of one of its classic films Pinocchio that will be directed by Robert Zemeckis. Starring Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans and the voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan-Michael Key and Lorraine Bracco, the retelling is coming in fall 2022.

10. National Geographic's Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and Welcome to Earth

Disney+ will be collaborating with National Geographic and it will be streaming the latter's new original series Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, a series that explores the boundaries of human potential in nature and it will be available for streaming only on Disney+ in 2022. National Geographic is also bringing its original series Welcome to Earth with Will Smith, which follows the actor to the ends of the Earth. It will be streamed exclusively on Disney+ starting on December 8. A third original series, America the Beautiful, will be available next year as well.

11. Sneakerella

This new take on the classic story of Cinderella is not only a film for romantic fanatics, but also sneakerheads out there. Premiering on February 18 on Disney+ next year, this romantic-comedy is a must-watch for date nights and hangouts with friends.

12. Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi

Disney+ Day wouldn’t be complete with additions to the Star Wars franchise. Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, an original documentary special that explores the origins and background of the mysterious titular character, is already available for streaming. Also coming in 2022 is the original series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which will showcase the Jedi master's history and journey to being one of the most iconic Jedi characters ever.

13. Intertwined

An original series about traveling through time to 1994, this movie is a fresh spin on the classic time-travelling movie trope as it combines the chic-flick comedy and quirk with the character's quest to find out what happened between her mother and grandmother. Now available for streaming, this Argentinian original is certainly one that will bring you on an exciting retro journey through time whilst tugging at your heartstrings at the same time.
