Grab your cosiest blankets and popcorn because it is officially spooky season. This means it is the perfect time to binge-watch all the horror movies and shows you have been bookmarking.

This month, as we celebrate Halloween, Netflix has released a slew of brand-new horror films and shows to mark the occasion and help you get in the spirit of things.

From the highly anticipated The School For Good And Evil which stars Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington to The Midnight Club which broke the Guinness World Record for the most scripted jumpscares in a single episode of television, there are tons to get excited for.

1. The School For Good And Evil

Directed by Paul Feig, The School For Good And Evil is a fantasy film based on a 2013 novel of the same name that tests the bounds of good versus evil. 

In the film, best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they are swept away into an enchanted school for heroes and villains. The film stars Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington and is a must-watch this Halloween.

2. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

You can’t really go wrong when you have John Lee Hancock at the helm and true enough, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is a work of art. 

In this American teen horror drama, Craig, a young boy, befriends the older Harrigan, a reclusive billionaire. The two bond over their shared love for books and reading until one day, Harrigan passes away. However, trouble ensues when Craig realises that Harrigan may not actually be as dead as he thought.

3. The Midnight Club

Did you know that at 21 jumpscares, the first episode of The Midnight Club broke the Guinness World Record for the most scripted jumpscares in a single episode of television?

The series, which stars Iman Benson, Igby Rigney and Ruth Codd follows eight hospice patients who meet up each day at midnight exactly to share utterly horrifying stories.

4. Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities

In this horror anthology, viewers are taken through eight unique horror stories that have been personally curated by Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro.

Two of the episodes are original works by Del Toro himself while the others were given to equally talented filmmakers who wrote and directed the episodes.

5. Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island

In this supernatural horror film which was originally released in 2020, viewers follow a group of people who, while visiting an island, discover that their dream fantasies are being brought to life.

However, it doesn’t take long before things take a dramatic turn and their most horrific nightmares begin to take shape in the real world.

The film stars Michael Peña, Maggie Q and Lucy Hale.

6. The Curse of Bridge Hollow

7. 28 Days Haunted

The team that can survive 28 days in this terrifying location wins as they contribute to advancing paranormal research.

8. The Good Nurse
