The Mandopop superstar and Singapore crooner will release their duet ‘At Least I Had You’ this Friday, November 19

Update, 17/11: We guessed it right—Mandopop superstar and Singapore crooner Gentle Bones are teaming up for an epic end-of-year collaboration!

The track will be titled ‘At Least I Had You’ and is set to drop this Friday, November 19. Describing the duet as “a ray of hope illuminating and unifying the hearts of all of us who may be going through tough times”, the track is about gratitude and appreciating the things that matter in life.

The announcement was teased over the weekend via now-deleted cryptic posts on both singers’ Instagrams that set fans speculating if an upcoming collaboration was on the horizon. Their company has since clarified that it was a “mutual hacking” with each singer taking over the other’s account.

Speaking of the collaboration, Gentle Bones said, “JJ is one of my heroes, in Singapore and in the world. I’ve been a huge fan of his music for almost my entire life and he’s a very talented individual, ahead of his time both back then and now. When I heard he was open to collaborating, I couldn’t believe it. It’s still a little weird to hear ad libs I’ve been hearing my whole life on a song with my own voice.”

Similarly, Lin was full of praise for Gentle Bones, saying that he “was already a fan” and that he really liked his music. “Though gentle and sentimental at first, his music is perfect representation of a “quiet strong” movement and musical style that I’ve also been an advocate of.”

The track was reportedly completed after a five hour-long jamming session, and marks Lin’s first English collaboration with a male Singaporean artist.

“We had a lot of fun, exploring how we could make a song that belonged to us both. I’m glad it turned out the way it did,” said Lin of the collaboration.

‘At Least I Had You’ will be released on all streaming platforms on Friday, November 19.

Original post, 15/11: Mandopop superstar JJ Lin posted a humorous post on Instagram yesterday that has sent fans into a tizzy.

His latest post on Instagram was a photo of Singaporean singer Gentle Bones (aka Joel Tan) at the Gucci Singapore flagship store reopening party last week, accompanied by the caption: “If not for @jjlin, I might not have been the @bonesgentle I am today - so can we please get on a song together?”

Similarly, Gentle Bones posted a photo of Lin at the same Gucci event on his own Instagram account, saying: “Hey @bonesgentle I think you’re super talented, but you might need a little bit of the @jjlin magic?”

This sparked a flurry of supportive—and speculative—comments on Instagram from celebrity pals and fans alike.

“Are we gonna have some Jjbones crossover soon?” queried Kunhua, a Singapore Chinese radio personality.

Singer Tay Kewei also posted messages of support on both artists’ Instagrams. “Can’t wait!!!” she wrote.

The singers also added to the mystery by commenting “???” on each others’ posts.

Lin has been in Singapore for a while now, attending the Gucci flagship store reopening, where he was touted as the headlining star; the Mandopop singer also managed to make a stop at the now-temporarily halted Kaws: Holiday exhibition at The Float at Marina Bay, where he snapped a photo with artist Kaws.

Gentle Bones has been vocal about how much he looks up to Lin in the past. In 2020, he told KKBox in an interview that he was “a huge fan of JJ.”

“As a child, I sang karaoke with my family and we will sing along to his songs,” he added. “He was really pushing for the RnB scene and he was also Singaporean so I have always looked up to him.”

There has been no official confirmation from either party when (or if) the hinted collaboration will drop, but it’s certainly got us—and the singers’ respective fans—on the edge of our seats.
