From art exhibitions to rooftop parties, here are our top event picks for the month

Culture vultures are in for a treat this November. For starters, Singapore Writer’s Festival is making its physical comeback after a three-year hiatus. With over 200 programmes lined up for three festival weekends, it’s safe to say that our bookworms will be thrilled.

Art enthusiasts can also look forward to checking Ana Tzarev’s solo art exhibition, or the Affordable Art Fair which will be featuring over 75 local and international galleries from 21 countries. With so much to enjoy this month, check out our top event picks for November below.

1. The Singapore Writers Festival

What: The Singapore Writer’s Festival is back. This year, the premier multilingual literary arts festival in Singapore celebrates its 25th edition and celebrates with more than 200 programmes over three festival weekends. 

From festival favourites to unexpected new offerings, there is something for everyone this year. From children, and youths to adults, this year’s exciting line-up of experiences is set to excite, inspire and thrill guests.

2. Taiwan Food Tour

What: We Singaporeans love Taiwan for the shopping, historical sites, night markets and of course, food. If you are missing the delicacies that Taiwan has to offer, head down to the Taiwan Food Tour this month to enjoy over 100 mouthwatering Taiwanese delicacies. From flavourful instant noodles to aromatic beverages and plant-based meat products, there is something for every foodie here.

3. Ana Tzarev’s Postcards For The Future

What: Artist and world nomad Ana Tzarev has lived an incredible life. The artist grew up in war-torn Croatia before moving to New Zealand and starting her own couture fashion line.

In her mid-fifties, she found a second career as a full-time artist and is now presenting a solo art exhibition in Singapore entitled Postcards For The Future. Featuring 47 new paintings and three sculptures, this is one exhibit you can’t miss.

4. Singtheatre’s A Singaporean in Paris

What: Directed by Hossan Leong, this twice-sold-out musical comedy revolves around the experience of a Singaporean artist who travels to Paris to pursue his life-long dream of performing in a cabaret. Watch and laugh along as he navigates his way around a new city, language and culture.

When: November 2 to 13

5. Affordable Art Fair

What: The Affordable Art Fair is back after a three-year hiatus with a slew of incredible artwork to engage with art lovers, collectors, and the public. 

Featuring over 75 local and international galleries from 21 countries, this year’s fair will showcase thousands of artworks from over 550 emerging and established artists. From contemporary oil paintings to life-size sculptures, there will be something to suit every taste, space and spend.

When: November 18 to 20

6. Pelago’s Silent Disco In The Sky

What: Silent Disco Asia returns to our shores after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus. This time, they are 56 floors above the ground atop the iconic SkyPark Observation Deck at Marina Bay Sands. 

Expect three live DJs to be spinning to three different genres that you can experience from 10 pm to 2 am on selected nights.

7. Jurong Bird Park’s A Flight To Remember

What: If you haven’t heard, Jurong Bird Park will be closing its doors on January 3, 2023, and will begin preparations to move to a brand-new home in Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. Before it closes, the bird park will be celebrating the end of its 52-year-long legacy with A Flight To Remember. 

Guests will be invited to take a walk down memory lane with nostalgic dining experiences, limited-edition merchandise and dedicated tours.

8. Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights 10

What: Evil has returned quite literally to Universal Studios Singapore this year with the 10th edition of Halloween Horror Nights, which will be happening from September 30 to November 5. 

Across 19 nights, horror fans can explore haunted houses, navigate scare zones, battle it out in terrifying laser tag games with a twist, enjoy spooky dining experiences and so much more.

9. Jesse Marlow’s Anything Can Happen and Probably Will

What: This month, Leica Galerie Singapore presents an exhibition by Jesse Marlow. Titled Anything Can Happen and Probably Will, the exhibition series is set in the urban environment and inspired by the banality of modern-day existence.

The series will explore themes of suburbia, abandonment, and daily rituals.

When: August 27 to November 4

10. Genting Dream’s Halloween Cruise

What: Trapped on a cruise ship with clowns, monsters and more? What could be better for a horror fan than that? This spooky season, Genting Dream will be hosting a thematic cruise that will creature a horror maze, themed cabins, Halloween-inspired food and so much more all out at sea.

When: October 16 to November 2
