The show follows a field agent from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) who goes missing after his investigations into a crime syndicate. A year later, he returns to the organisation where he aims to seek revenge on those that were scheming against him.

In the 12-episode show, Min takes on the role of Han Ji-hyuk, the driven and almost perfect field agent. Min stars alongside Park who plays Ji-hyuk’s co-worker at the NIS and the head of the Criminal Information Integration Centre. Kim on the other hand plays Yoo Je-yi, Ji-hyuk’s partner.

The series was released on September 17 this year and did so well that a two-part spin-off of the series, Moebius: The Veil, was released. The spin-off focused on the backstories of Park, Jung Moon-sung and Jang Young-nam’s characters and was released on October 29.

In honour of the show’s resounding success, Tatler got the chance to sit down with Min, Park and Kim to find out what it was like filming the series and working with each other. Keep reading to find out all the juicy behind-the-scenes details.

What did you do to get into charachter? What was your process like?

Park Ha Sun (PHS): I went through the script more than I usually would. I also received advice from those who are actually working at the NIS in real life.

Even though it was being written in the script, I did put in the effort to match my character’s physical appearance along with practising to be like Su Yeon in the drama. Both her actions and tone of voice were cold and chic.

Do you have a pre-filming ritual?

PHS: Styling check, reading the script, role practice, and pronunciation practice are the things that I would do prior to filming. There are things that I’ll always do before the cameras roll but I’ll make it a point to make sure everything is good to go before we start.

Nam Goong Min (NGM): Originally, the cast and crew members would go on a trip together, once before and once after the filming, as a form of team building. However, that was made impossible since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

This is a question for Park. What was it like working with Min and Kim?

PHS: Both of them were themselves whether or not they were in character. It came as a surprise to me when I found out that Min didn’t only pay attention to his physical appearance when in character but that he also had the details for every single one of his scenes well taken care of and prepared for.

As for Kim, the fresh feeling she gives off as a rookie goes really well with her character. It was really nice to see her trying her best.

What was the best moment for you on set with the cast?

PHS: The director was really generous when it came to giving us the okay sign during the shoot. I’m sure you’ll understand what I mean if you have a look at the behind the scenes footage. The positive and encouraging vibe that can be felt on set was all thanks to the director himself.

NGM: The most memorable experience I had on set was when I had to put on heavy makeup for the beginning of the production. In order to create traces of prolonged torture and the appearance of someone escaping from somewhere, I had to put on heavy makeup, have my hair messed up, put on a shaggy beard, and give my body some ‘bloodstains’ which took us almost 2 hours to get ready.

In addition, I couldn’t afford to have my ‘blood stains’ wiped off. Hence, I had to move around almost naked. I did feel a little embarrassed while doing so.

How different was it filming The Veil as compared to the other shows you have done? What made the experience of filming The Veil stand out?

NGM: I think the heavy story, differentiated action sequence, the tension and joy that viewers can infer from Han Ji Hyuk's past memories. All of these combined are what set The Veil apart from past productions.

Also, I think the amount of fun and the chemistry among the cast doubled as I acted alongside such great actors. When it comes to our teamwork, we really have a huge deal of confidence in what we are doing more than anything else.

Kim Ji Eun (KJE): The Veil is a drama that looks almost like a movie. I think it is a special production in the sense that despite it being a fast-paced and tense series, it is one that will allow you to concentrate and immerse yourself in it. Hence, it is fun for the audience to tune in to.

What are your plans for your next series or movie?

PHS: I was part of the spinoff of The Veil, titled Moebius: The Veil. From there on, the next production that I will be a part of has already been decided on. Hence, I should be able to meet everyone again soon.

Catch The Veil on Viu.
