After a hiatus since 2018, Song Hye-Kyo returns to our screens in a new K-drama that is set to hit viewers right in the feels

Song Hye-Kyo is quite the big name amongst fans of Korean dramas. With her leading roles in phenomenal shows such as Descendants of the Sun, Encounter, The Queens and more, it’s no secret why the actress was ranked sixth on Forbes’ prestigious Korea Power Celebrity list in 2018.

It’s also quite obvious why Korean drama fans all over are excited to see Song onscreen once again with her new highly-anticipated drama, Now We’re Breaking Up. Song’s role in the drama comes after the star went on a hiatus after wrapping up her romantic melodrama, Encounter in 2018.

Now We’re Breaking Up is a romantic drama that is set to premiere on November 12. In the drama, which was directed by Lee Gil-Bok, Song plays the role of Ha Young-Eun, the leader of a design team at a fashion company. She is a realist and self-disciplined to a fault.

This realistic drama takes viewers on a journey through love and breakups against the backdrop of the cutthroat fashion industry.

Song will be starring alongside Jang Ki Yong who will be playing the role of Yoon Jae Guk who is a freelance photographer learning about love.

“As an actress, the fashion industry isn’t too far off. However, I was a bit surprised while indirectly experiencing the work that happens in an actual company that designs clothes. I realised it was really like a very fierce and chaotic battlefield in which every minute and every second is precious. I think the viewers will also have fun watching what happens up to the point in which the clothes we buy come out into the world,” shared Song in an interview with Dazed magazine earlier this month.

Another thing that viewers can look forward to is Song’s newfound range of emotions that she has developed with age and experience.

“For example, let’s pretend that the stages of sadness I have to portray in a scene range from one to five. If in the past I could only perceive sadness at the first level, now four levels of emotions make my heart waver since I’ve aged and built experience. The sadness and pain I didn’t know when I was young have become emotions I feel clearly after time passed,” Song shared.

Sure enough, Song certainly has a lot to give in terms of emotional range especially since she went through a highly-publicised divorce from her ex-husband and Descendants Of The Sun co-star, Song Joong-ki back in 2019. The couple met on the set of the show in 2016 and tied the knot in real life in 2017 much to the delight of fans.

When asked why she had chosen to do a romantic drama after Encounter, Song shared, “I had expectations for myself and wished that the Song Hye-Kyo doing a romance drama in her 40s will be different than her 30s. Some people criticised me for doing another romance drama, but after wrapping up a drama like this, I don’t have any regrets. No matter what people say, I think that I did a really good job of choosing Now We Are Breaking Up at this point in my life.”

You can watch Song’s emotional performance on November 12 on Viki or Viu.
