Too much to watch and too little time? We highlight the new Netflix and Disney+ shows you can't miss this August

August has arrived and with it comes a slew of exciting shows for us to stream and binge throughout the month. No matter if you are a Netflix subscriber or a Disney+ one (or both), we have you covered.

From Neil Gaiman's highly-anticipated adaptation of The Sandman to the third season of Never Have I Ever (which we are binge-watching in one sitting), there is so much on offer this month. 

Here, we highlight seven shows that you absolutely have to watch.

1. The Sandman

The Sandman, an American fantasy drama based on the 1989 to 1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics is finally here. 

Follow the journey of Morpheus, the titular Sandman, who is the personification of dreams as he escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm, The Dreaming.

The film stars Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong and Patton Oswalt.

2. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie

Our favourite teen turtles are back and this time, their mystic ninja powers are being put to the ultimate test. 

Watch as the turtles battle it out with ruthless creatures who have arrived from another universe to unleash extreme chaos on the world.

3. Never Have I Ever Season 3

Netflix’s Never Have I Ever season three is finally here and we could not be more excited to binge-watch the new season. 

The show focuses on an Asian American teenager, Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), as she navigates high school life, relationships and family matters while dealing with the tragic loss of her father. 

After season two ended with a huge cliffhanger as Devi and her love interest Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) rekindled their relationship in time for the school’s winter dance, we are ready to once again immerse ourselves in the complicated lives of Devi and her teenage friends.

4. Indian Matchmaking: Season 2

Our favourite auntie (read: matchmaker) is back and better than ever in a brand new season of Indian Matchmaking and this season, it seems like our candidates are getting even more specific about their potential partners. 

With some of the original cast members making an appearance as well as some new clients, expect laughs, romance and a whole lot of drama.

5. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Marvel is back at it again with another television series and this time, it will be based on the Marvel Comics character She-Hulk.

The series follows Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specialises in cases involving superhumans, who gets into an accident that turns her into the superhero She-Hulk.

In this action-packed series starring Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo, viewers watch as Walters learns to adapt to her new life as the hulk.

6. I Am Groot

Groot is arguably one of the most adorable creatures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he is finally getting the treatment he deserves with a series of animated shorts dedicated specially to him. 

Follow along as Groot (Vin Diesel) goes on various adventures and gets himself into all kinds of trouble in these five special shorts.

7. Lightyear

In this Toy Story spin-off, Buzz Lightyear has been marooned on a hostile planet with his commander and crew. As he tries to find his way back home, he is forced to confront threats that could potentially endanger the entire universe. 

The film, which was recently in theatres, stars Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn and Taika Waititi.
