Get ready to binge-watch the third season of Mindy Kaling’s hit Netflix series, Never Have I Ever

Our weekend plans are sorted because the premiere of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever season three is here and we are all set to settle into our favourite spot on the couch to binge-watch the series.

The show focuses on an Asian American teenager, Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), as she navigates high school life, relationships and family matters while dealing with the tragic loss of her father.

After season two ended with a huge cliffhanger as Devi and her love interest Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) rekindled their relationship in time for the school’s winter dance, we are ready to once again immerse ourselves in the complicated lives of Devi and her teenage friends.

Season three drops on August 12 and will feature 10 half-hour-long episodes this time round. Below, we break down everything we know about the upcoming season.

1. Devi and Paxton Are Officially Together

You probably saw this coming. Remember in the very first episode of Never Have I Ever when Devi unabashedly asked Paxton to get in bed with her?

The pair have certainly gone through a rollercoaster ride since that significant scene but season three opens with the two finally becoming a couple and turning heads in the process.

From the trailer, it looks like we will see Devi attempt to navigate this high-profile relationship with Paxton while also grappling with her inner feelings of inadequacies.

She is, after all, a member of the UN—fans of the show will understand this but if you do not, we will leave you to find out by watching the show for yourself.

2. The Love Triangle Will Continue to Play Out

We all love a good love triangle and it looks like even though Devi and Paxton are finally together, Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) may still have a massive crush on Devi.

In case you need a refresher, season one ended with Devi kissing Ben only to realise that Paxton had left her a voicemail asking her to hang out. Devi goes on to date both men, a scheme that was eventually revealed when they both showed up at a house party (thrown by Devi, of course) at the same time.

Now, from the trailer, it looks like Ben is still salty about Devi and Paxton getting together and this will only spell a conundrum.

3. We Will Have a New Love Interest

Is our love triangle becoming... a square? The new Never Have I Ever trailer seems to suggest that this is a possibility with the exciting introduction of a new love interest, Nirdesh. Yes, finally a love interest who is also Indian—quite possible a dream come true for Devi’s mother.

And sure enough, Nirdesh (Anirudh Pisharody) is one of Devi’s mother’s friends.

Nirdesh attends an elite private school and Devi expects him to be a nerd. However, jaws drop when a handsome and suave Nirdesh walks through the door.

Looks like the season is set to be a very complicated and swoon-worthy one.

4. Reese Witherspoon’s Son Will Make His Acting Debut

Fans will be treated to a new character played by Deacon Phillippe, who is none other than the son of Hollywood starlet Reese Witherspoon. Phillippe will be making his acting debut as a party boy from a private school.

In an interview earlier this year, Mindy Kaling, the show’s co-creator, said that Phillippe was cast after Kaling had a conversation with his mother about his dreams of going into acting.

“Reese had told me that he was interested in performing ... and I had this role that seemed really good for him,” Kaling told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s so super talented, obviously really handsome, but here’s this kid who’s been raised by two very successful actors and he wanted to learn.”

5. There Will Be a Season 4

We know that the number one question on everyone’s mind is: will there be a fourth season? We are happy to report that indeed there will be. According to Maitreyi herself, the cast has reportedly finished filming the fourth (and sadly) final season of the show.

While we don’t know as much as we’d like about the final season, we do know that the season is expected to take place as Devi prepares to graduate.

“Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a loyal fan, I’d love Devi’s journey to go on forever,” said Erin Underhill, the president of Universal Television, in a statement. “But just like high school, all great things must come to an end... We can’t wait to experience all of the messiness, the LOLs and the tears that will surely unfold in Devi’s senior year.”
