For 16 years, the Unico calibre has come to define Hublot’s innovative approach, now more visible than ever in the Big Bang Reloaded

The Hublot Big Bang, true to its name, is bold and audacious. With its multi-layered case, H-shaped screws on the bezel, and dramatic openworked dial, it rightfully earned a reputation as a luxury sports watch with an edge.

The Unico calibre was introduced to the Big Bang in 2010, marking a new chapter for the model. Like the watch it powers, Hublot’s first manufacture chronograph movement was a statement piece with the column wheel and silicon escapement positioned on the dial side. In 2018, it levelled up by becoming a fully integrated calibre, improving its performance and trimmed to fit multiple cases. The flyback chronograph, precise to 1/18th of a second for instant reset and restart, features five patents, an accuracy of -2/+4 seconds per day, and 72 hours of power reserve.

Today, it is reengineered once more—this time by spotlighting the essential chronograph components on the dial side with colour accents and contrasts. The column wheel at 6 o’clock and the dual oscillating clutch at 8 o’clock are coloured for better visibility. The date has been moved to between 4 and 5 o’clock to completely unblock the view of the chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The flyback function draws your eyes with subtle colour details.

Externally, the Big Bang Reloaded asserts a sportier character with a 44mm case with a two-part bezel, and hardy, innovative materials like ceramic and Magic Gold, a proprietary 18k gold resistant to scratches. There is a total of five references: Magic Gold, All Black ceramic, blue ceramic, dark green ceramic, and titanium with black ceramic.

Our top pick, however, is the limited-edition created in collaboration with brand ambassador Usain Bolt in black ceramic and carbon with yellow gold bezel. The eagle-eyed will spot the numerals that appear between 6 and 8 o’clock are 6-5-8—it should actually be read as “9.58” (the “5” is inverted), alluding to Bolt’s 100m world record set in 2009.
