Oris' robust Big Crown with a pointer date now comes with a truly unique feature—the strap is made from sustainable deer leather. Since Oris gained climate neutral status from Climate Partner last year, the Swiss manufacture forges forward with its commitment to minimising its environmental impact with a partnership with Cervo Volante, a sustainable deer leather maker.
In order to manage deer population and protect the Swiss countryside, 15,000 wild red deer are culled every year, an operation that is entirely legal, necessary, and highly regulated. Founded by biotechnology engineer Kadri Vunder Fontana and biologist Conny Thiel-Egenter, Cervo Volante take the skin that would have been discarded otherwise and transform them into beautiful, hard-wearing leather products. The leather is treated using eco-friendly vegetable tanning.
