Oris celebrates the new partnership with a new Aquis Date watch

Oris has always been a huge champion of environmental conservation efforts. Its Great Barrier Reef series of watches is dedicated to preserving the world’s largest reef system. In 2022, it supported the Billion Oyster Project to clean up the waters of New York Harbour. More recently, it announced a partnership with Changjiang Conservation Foundation (CCF) in China to conserve the critically endangered finless porpoise in the Yangtze River.

CCF is on a mission to protect the Yangtze River and its aquatic inhabitants—apart from the finless porpoise, China’s longest river is also home to the Chinese sturgeon and Baer’s pochard. According to Dr Qian Zhengyi, the project director of CCF, the organisation “aims to build a socialised conservation platform involving government, research institutions, charitable enterprises, NGOs and the public, fostering the growth of grassroots environmental NGOs, and uniting more social forces to address climate change, thus contributing to the ecological protection and sustainable development of the Yangtze River.”

To raise awareness, it has created the Yangtze Jiangtun Limited Edition watch, a rendition of the Aquis Date 43.5mm. The mother-of-pearl dial glistens in shades of blue and green, the wave pattern echoing the surface of the Yangtze River and the sound waves of the porpoise’s high-frequency calls.

The back of the stainless steel case is engraved with an image of the finless porpoise and the limited-edition number, 1,249, which is also the total population of the aquatic mammal. The watch also features a uni-directional bezel and a screwed-down crown, and is water-resistant up to 300m.

The Oris Calibre 733 is a self-winding movement with a 41-hour power reserve.

“We found that Oris has long been committed to nature conservation, developing product lines such as the Great Barrier Reef. We share a goal to raise public awareness and encourage participation in environmental protection through our product. We’re very grateful to Oris for the attention to the protection of the Yangtze River ecosystem,” said Qian.
