Unveiled at Climate Week New York, ID Genève’s limited-edition SDG timepiece proves that Swiss luxury can also be a catalyst for global change

At the recent Climate Week New York, Swiss watchmaker ID Genève unveiled something the industry has never seen before: the world’s first Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) timepiece, created in collaboration with the United Nations (UN). Limited to just 17 pieces, each watch corresponds to one of the 17 SDGs—from climate action to gender equality—making it less an accessory than a statement of intent.

Crafted from CompPair’s HealTech regenerative carbon, a breakthrough material that self-heals and extends lifespan, the ID Genève watch is 100 per cent Swiss Made, marrying the rigour of Geneva’s horological tradition with a forward-looking circular economy. The dial carries a subtle reinterpretation of the SDG colour wheel: warm gradients along the minute track offset by deep blue hour markers. The SDG emblem and a unique number, each corresponding to one of the 17 goals, are engraved on the caseback.

This isn’t just about design—it’s about ownership with purpose. Priced at US$10,500, the 17 watches are available only by application, reserved for individuals whose values align with the cause. Ten percent of proceeds go directly to advancing the UN’s SDGs.

For Nicolas Freudiger, ID Genève’s co-founder and CEO, “time is our most precious resource,” and this launch reflects both urgency and optimism. Endorsed by Leonardo DiCaprio’s investment in the brand and supported by the UN itself, the project shows how luxury can be both desirable and responsible.

Founded in 2020, ID Genève has quickly built a reputation as one of Switzerland’s most forward-thinking watchmakers, blending horological savoir-faire with a radical commitment to sustainability. Its watches are built from reprocessed and solar-forged steel, refurbished movements, and compostable materials, with straps made from green waste, resulting in a carbon footprint far smaller than industry norms.

In 2023, DiCaprio became an investor of ID Genève, bolstering the brand’s mission to unite craftsmanship with climate action. The company also became the first Swiss-made watch brand to achieve B Corp certification, holding itself to the highest standards of social and environmental accountability.
