IWC Schaffhausen received the top honour last night at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2024 in Geneva
Since 2001, the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) has celebrated global watchmaking excellence, earning its reputation as the “Oscars” of the watch industry. A total of 20 categories were awarded, with the top honour “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix going to IWC Schaffhausen’s ground-breaking Portugieser Eternal Calendar. Endowed with a 400-year gear train, the watch is mechanically programmed to take into account the complex nuances of the Gregorian calendar and calculate the leap years correctly until the year 3999.

Another notable winner is Malaysia’s very own Ming, which received the Sports Watch Prize for its 37.09 Bluefin. This elegant diver swaps the traditional rotating bezel for an internal rotating dial. Other Asian winners include Kudoke (“Petite Aiguille” Watch Prize—for watches retailing between watches with a retail price between CHF 3,000 (about US$3,543) and CHF 10,000 (about US$11,281) and Otsuka Lotec (Challenge Watch Prize—for watches retailing at CHF3,000 (about US$3,543) and below).

Multiple winners include Chopard, which received the Eco-Innovation Prize and the Jewellery Watch Prize, and Van Cleef & Arpels who swept the two Ladies' categories as well as the Artistic Crafts Watch Prize.
Artisanal watch casemaker Jean-Pierre Hagmann, who has collaborated with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, received the Special Jury Prize, the equivalent of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
