The brothers were in Kuala Lumpur to unveil a special watch celebrating the 70th anniversary of Sincere Fine Watches

H. Moser & Cie. knew that standing out meant taking risks. "We said from Day 1, we need to create polarising designs," Edouard Meylan, CEO and co-owner of H. Moser & Cie., reminisced. Creating expensive products wasn’t enough—they needed to evoke strong emotions, even if it meant some might not understand their vision.

In fact, the bolder the creations, the more attention the brand garnered, with both critics and enthusiasts fuelling the brand’s success. Bertrand Meylan, co-owner of H. Moser & Cie. and CEO of MELB Luxe Subsidiaries, added that where there were detractors, there were also passionate defenders, whose loyalty only deepened with every audacious design.

The brothers were in Kuala Lumpur to unveil the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD Purple Enamel Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition, created to celebrate Sincere Fine Watches’ 70th anniversary. Limited to 20 pieces, the perpetual calendar timepiece is notable for its purple fumé dial. The heightened energy from the launch was carried over to a fireside chat with the Meylans, engaging an audience of collectors and enthusiasts. Watch the fireside chat below:

In anticipation of its 70th anniversary, Ong Ban, CEO of Sincere Fine Watches, had a daring proposition: a special edition perpetual calendar. Initially, the brothers resisted. A perpetual calendar was one of their most complex and revered movements, and producing a unique piece for just one retailer seemed daunting.

“We don’t normally do a special perpetual calendar for one retailer as we don’t make enough movements per year,” Bertrand explained. But Ong Ban was persuasive. For him, the perpetual calendar was an iconic complication of Moser.

Eventually, Moser saw this as an opportunity to push the envelope once again. The independent watchmaker has always believed in balancing the old with the new, blending timeless craftsmanship with modern design.

“Moser is anchored in traditions, and we try to create a bridge between that and modernism,” Edouard explained. “One is not independent of the other.” This philosophy guided their creative process as they embarked on the project.

“Our philosophy is ‘less is more’ or as some say, ‘less is Moser’. It’s about adding modernism on a traditional canvas.”

For Moser, innovation wasn’t just about new technologies—it was about reimagining the familiar. Take something as simple as a black dial, for instance. How could they make it truly special? The answer lay in making it the blackest dial possible, a feat of design and innovation that is the Venturer Vantablack.

“Innovation, for us, isn't about making it more complex. It is how we can make it more user-friendly and simpler. Our philosophy is ‘less is more’ or as some say, ‘less is Moser’. It’s about adding modernism on a traditional canvas,” said Edouard.

And so H. Moser & Cie. set out to create a watch that would honour Sincere Fine Watches’ legacy, while staying true to their own. The result was a timepiece that captured the essence of both brands—a perpetual calendar that was as much a tribute to tradition as it was a bold modern statement.
