Cortina Watch turns 50 this year, and it kicks off a year-long celebration with the release of two Patek Philippe exclusive pieces

Cortina Watch and Patek Philippe have a long partnership, way before it became official when the former was founded in Singapore in 1972. Cortina's founder Anthony Lim first met Patek Philippe's Henri Stern 66 years ago. When Cortina was established, Patek Philippe was one of the first luxury brands in its portfolio. The partnership has since grown stronger and today, it manages no less than six Patek Philippe boutiques across Asia.

Cortina's CEO Jeremy Lim, who is the younger son of Anthony, said: "Patek Philippe and Cortina Watch share an intertwined relationship in Asia, from the the establishment of its boutiques across Southeast and East Asia, to our shared passion for fine watchmaking and craftsmanship. Not only have I personally experienced this throught the generous friendship of Thierry and Philippe Stern, so have many of our clients who have had the privilege of visiting the manufacture."

On the occasion of Cortina's Golden Jubilee, there will be special editions from the likes of Chopard, Corum, Franck Muller, H. Moser & Cie., TAG Heuer and Blancpain. The first releases come from Patek Philippe who created a wristwatch and a dome clock for the occasion. Each is limited to 100 pieces.

For the wristwatch, Patek Philippe revives the Calatrava it created for Cortina for its 25th anniversary in 1997. Its most distinguishing feature, the triple row Clous de Paris hobnail bezel, remains the key design highlight in this new white gold timepiece that also features a charcoal grey sunburst dial with black gradient rim.

Powered by the ultra-thin automatic Caliber 240 PS IRM C LU, the functions include indicators for the date, moon phase, small seconds and power reserve. As a final flourish, the sapphire caseback is adorned with the inscription, "Cortina Watch 50th Anniversary Since 1972".

Patek Philippe's dome clocks are highly coveted works of art, a veritable show-stopping showcase of the superlative artisanal craftsmanship of the manufacture. For this commemorative edition, Patek Philippe has taken Singapore's city centre landscape of the CBD, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay and the Merlion as inspiration. Aptly named 'Singapore Skyline', the enameler used 9.2m of 24k gold wire and cut them into tiny segments to shape the contours by hand.

To realise the images, a palette of 50 enamel colours was used. The fireworks and golden stars at the top of the dome were made with gold and silver dust. Time-reading is a luxurious affair as the hour markers are lapis lazuli and set on a guilloched hour circle with a cloissone enamel centre.

The friendship between my grandfather, father and Anthony Lim started over 66 years ago and it still stands strong today, much like the relationship between patek Philippe and Cortina Watch. This is a unique and precious relationship that truly transcends generations.
