Chaumet’s Ondes & Merveilles high jewellery collection invents a unique language of the sea, capturing the colours and joy of life within and around the expansive depths
In a dazzling tribute to the sea, Chaumet unveils Ondes & Merveilles, a 69-piece high jewellery collection capturing maritime beauty. The series marks a historic first for the venerable house, which has never before dedicated an entire haute joaillerie line to the ocean’s splendour. Here, we examine four standout chapters of the nine-part aquatic treasure trove, demonstrating Chaumet’s undeniable virtuosity in translating abstract concepts into wearable works of art.
Rippling radiance is embodied in À Fleur d’Eau, creating the illusion of shimmering water droplets dancing on gentle waves, captured in diamonds and white gold. The collection realises this ethereal vision with exquisite artistry, featuring marquise-cut diamonds strategically set on multiple levels. The pièce de résistance is a fully articulated necklace, its fluid movement enhanced by a detachable 7.18-carat pear-shaped diamond that seems to float effortlessly.

Charmingly versatile, the À Fleur d’Eau head jewel transforms into two separate brooches, bridging Chaumet’s rich heritage with modern sensibilities. Pendant earrings and a ring featuring a 3-carat diamond complete this glittering set.
The Gulfstream jewels are a bold study in chromatic contrasts, drawing inspiration from the warm Florida current that traverses the Atlantic. Here, Chaumet’s master jewellers play with two colour pairings, combining vivid cool blues and vibrant greens, alongside deep blues that appear more intense against hints of fiery orange.

A show-stopping necklace evoking the dynamic nature of ocean currents combines a 26-carat Colombian mint-green emerald with a 7.15-carat Madagascar sapphire, their unique hues accentuated by a sea of smaller sapphires, Paraiba tourmalines, and emeralds. For those who crave the mystery of the deep, a second adjustable necklace showcases a mesmerising 19.83-carat black Australian opal nestled alongside a Colombian sugarloaf emerald, swirling into a fine spray of emeralds and sapphires.
Meanwhile, the Gulfstream rings revisit Chaumet’s signature “toi et moi’’ style, with sapphires nestled in wave forms—a poetic nod to a starry night sky reflected on the ocean’s surface. Mandarin garnets light up a bracelet and burst across a brooch and earrings, both of which are transformable.

In Comètes des Mers, Chaumet unites two vast expanses—the night sky and the open ocean—into a single breathtaking narrative. This chapter features a creation of a multi-strand necklace composed of pearls in blush-pink, light grey, mauve, and olive shades. A vibrant polychromatic star completes this masterpiece, adorned with one of the rarest types of sapphires, a Padparadscha sapphire that shines in a soft pink hue.
Perhaps the most whimsical of the Ondes & Merveilles collection, the Encres chapter pays homage to sailor lore and those who live at sea. Rich in symbolism, this series of unisex brooches transforms traditional nautical tattoo motifs into miniature jewelled tableaux, each telling its own story.

A seagull in flight, rendered in diamonds and turquoise, seems to soar across a cloudy sky. An anchor, poised to plunge into a sea of deep blue Grand Feu enamel, speaks of journeys and homecomings. Most charming is the two-masted ship, its banner proclaiming “L’amour est une aventure,” meaning “love is an adventure.” Set with a heart-shaped ruby, a message concealed in a jewelled bottle echoes the plea “Ne m’oublie pas” or “Forget me not.” In a final stroke of ingenuity, each brooch conceals a secret: a pendant ring that can be revealed at will and accommodates a gold chain, transforming these already versatile pieces into unique necklaces.
With Ondes & Merveilles, Chaumet has not merely created a collection of exquisite jewels but has captured the very essence of the sea—its colours, movements, mysteries and romance.
