Tatler assembles the mavericks of fashion throughout the region in Asia’s Most Stylish 2022 list

For more than two decades, Asia's Most Stylish has honoured the people who embody Tatler's style codes: that it celebrates individuality, signals taste, expresses mood and exemplifies a mastery of self-presentation.

This year’s Asia's Most Stylish list assembles more than 60 personalities from Tatler’s seven markets: Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and China. Together, they represent the people—fashion darlings, insiders, icons—who are defining the way we dress now, as well as reminding us that dressing up remains a worthwhile and enjoyable endeavour.

Style insiders define the standard.

Tatler editors and executives from across the region have taken care to select only the individuals who offer something truly unique for Asia’s Most Stylish 2022. We’ve considered a gamut of standards, which not only include personal style (how they incorporate a point of view into what they wear) and presence (how they’re always top-of-mind when it comes to style) but also meaningful metrics such as influence and impact (how they set the standard and create positive change in fashion).

And so, we have insiders such as China’s Min Liu and Ian Hylton, the creative couple behind the independent brand Ms MIN, which is lauded for its balance of modernity and tradition; Malaysia’s Cilla Foong, who started as a model in the ’70s and now curates bespoke events for luxury brands; and Hong Kong’s Fiona Fang, who leads the way in sustainable fashion by using dead-stock fabrics in the all-black clothes of Allegory.

Shapeshifters steal the spotlight.

Of course, this year’s list features public figures known for their original looks. Taiwan’s Billie Wang, the queen of funk and soul, complements her artistic talents with vintage fashion and leopard-print looks. The Philippines’ Scarlet Snow Belo, who, at seven years old, is the youngest honouree on the list, shares her charming everyday style to her 5.1 million Instagram followers.

Indonesia’s Hans Huang, a vocal performer and piano teacher, steals the spotlight with graphic suits that reflect his authentic self. Likewise, Singapore’s Vanda Miss Joaquim, the drag superstar who was part of Drag Race Thailand, taps into the ultimate power of style to champion freedom.

In the end, we’ve gathered the lovers of fashion—the people for whom clothes are not just things that you stumble into on a groggy morning. For Asia’s Most Stylish, style is a source of emotion, a mode of expression, and even life itself.
